"Robin Hood" will be getting a futuristic makeover courtesy of the producers of The Dark Knight and 300 as well as Warner Bros., where a new take on the classic tale has been set up, says the Risky Biz Blog.

Atlas Entertainment and Hollywood Gang will produce the untitled saga, while commercials director Nicolai Fuglsig, who pitched the project, has signed on to direct. Jason Hall will write the screenplay.

Few plot details have been revealed about the new Robin Hood, but it will be set in a dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city's embattled population. Producers describe it as "a futuristic action adventure” that will be "both inspired by and pay homage to the legend of Robin Hood."

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce via their Atlas banner, while Gianni Nunnari will produce via his Hollywood Gang shingle. Craig Flores of Hollywood Gang will executive produce

What's next, a futuristic Sherlock Holmes?

Futuristic can mean a number of things. I can see this trying to be like V for Vendetta, if their version of 'futuristic' doesn't involve sci-fi.

And I noticed it said saga, so I'm guessing sequels are already in the works as well.

The SyFy channel aired a futuristic Beowulf a couple of times. I never watched it though.

I never got the fascination with a thief, but that's just me. Carry on.

Commercial Directors are really wanted in Hollywood right now

The director of this one made my favorite commercial ever, the sony bravia ad with the bouncing balls

This sounds ****ing stupid. Like the kind of movie the protagonist of a film satirising Hollywood would be working on.

"And he can have a laser bow and everything, guys! Think of the mechandising possiblities!"

Okay this is needed like Paris Hilton on Supernatural. Oh wait both are ahppening :-(

I say GREAT. :) I always felt the Robin Hood theme could be brought into any era and be enjoyable.

It's not like the new Sherlock Holmes film seems to represent a very Sir Arthur Conan Doyle "deductive reasoning" portrayal of Holmes. More like an MTV version. But this could just be the trailer.

Not to derail this thread, but Holmes actually is stated in the books to be a master fencer, skilled boxer, and have considerable knowledge of some martial arts. It was never focused on much in the books, but this movie is simply taking advantage of what hasn't been capitalized in previous media incarnations.

You know what this means....

Silver tights! RaWr

Desperate, maybe, but why is this inherently "stupid"? It's not exactly a "safe" theme, and a nod to classic literature is always good.

Robin Hood has been done to death. But never like this. I'd like to see what they come up with.

Oh well atleast its not another Hollywood remake so we can be thankful for that. I'm open minded I'll wait and see how this pans out.

aren't they already doing a Russell Crowe Robin Hood? What's with the interest in Robin Hood all of a sudden?

Yeah, it sounds like it might be a cool idea but they picked a terrible time to do it since another Robin Hood movie is already in production.

It seems to happen in cycles: about every ten to twenty years there's usually a Robin Hood project or two put out, usually at least two.

The futuristic take intrigues me, because I always figured if I were to re-tell the legend of Robin Hood, THAT'S the direction I would have gone in, albeit maybe in a harder-edged "Mad Max" vein.

I hope The Sheriff is a badass robot:hehe:.
