Robin Hood Reboot with Taron Egerton/Jamie Foxx

So this is set in a future in which the British monarchy becomes an absolute monarchy again or something?

Wait so he's not playing "future" Sheriff of Nottingham, he's playing "origins" Sheriff of Nottingham?

Also in any incarnation does this character ever get a name?

Well, in TV's "When Things Were Rotten" (1975) his name was Hubert.

More Robin Hood? Why?!

I really mean it, why?

Also, we have a superhero robin hood on CW that they did have a great script for back in 2007. WHY NOT DO THAT ONE INSTEAD OF MAKING MORE OF SOMETHING WE DON'T NEED?!

This doesn't seem to be futuristic so I removed that from the thread title.

I mean, we don't need any of it. But it's their money, not ours, so they can make whatever they want.

Kevin Costner must be rolling in his grave.
I think you mean Jonathan Kent. Kevin Kostner isn't dead.

This movie is literally like they took that King Arthur movie that bombed and just re-skinned it as Robin Hood.

Is this Foxx’ first attempt at a English accent in a movie? At least he’s trying. It’s understated but fine.

I’ll try again...

Russell Crowe must be rolling in his grave.

I think he meant Kevin Costner's acting career is rolling in its grave.
His acting career seems to be doing OK all things considered. He's not winning Academy Awards right now, but he's doing all right.

Yeah to be fair, Costner has been doing well as of late.

How a simple joke turned into a discussion about a film career.

True, his career did stumble out of its grave to do something with Yellowstone but for a while there it was definitely not alive.

As far as I know Russell Crowe's career is not exactly sprightly either.

And to tie back into this latest almost assured flop of a movie, whoever stars in it will almost certainly be taking a few hits themselves.

How did Costner's acting career stumble out of a grave to do Yellowstone?

In recent years he's done Man of Steel, Hidden Figures, Jack Ryan, and just last year Molly's Game.

Costner has been working steadily in decently high-profile movies.

Isn't Yellowstone doing well?

A lot of big name or previously big name actors are doing TV these days. TV is where you get to do all the creative and ambitious work now because the arthouse scene is pretty much dead and there is very little in the way of mid-level or mid-budget movies.

This looks soooooo bad. How is it that in the three big budget adaptations of Robin Hood in the past 30 years, all of them have managed to painfully miscast the lead role? Egerton would work as Will Scarlet or another young sidekick type of character. But I can't buy him as Robin Hood. He still looks like a teenager.

It's a little weird to me that you try to make a Robin Hood movie to try and exploit the whole superhero movie craze.

Costner's accent aside, I still see Prince of Thieves as the definitive Robin Hood movie.

I really loved that movie as a kid but it hasn't aged well, mostly because of Costner. Rickman was amazing as the Sheriff though.

The complete irony of Prince of Thieves is that if instead of Costner, they had cast Cary Elwes as Robin Hood in that film instead of him playing the role in the Mel Brooks Men in Tights parody, it would have been much better.
