As a huge Robo fan .. I am veryyyy excited to see what they can do with Robocop in the 21st century![FONT=Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, Geneva][FONT=Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, Geneva]MGM has officially signed Darren Aronofsky to direct and David Self to write. I just hope the rumors of it being in LA and not in Detroit aren't true.

Already athread in the Misc. Movie section, plus why is RC in the comic section anyway?

Aronofsky briefly touch on the status of RoboCop, which is NOT a remake of the original. As you can tell by the brevity of his answers, Aronofsky is playing his cards close to his vest when it comes to this new RoboCop, which is aiming for a 2010 release.

How far are you along?
Darren Aronofsky: "We just finished the treatment and the screenwriter is writing. So we’ll see what happens."

And it’s not a remake?
Darren Aronofsky: "No."

It's a total re-imagining?
Darren Aronofsky: "Yes."

Does it still pretty much have the same storyline?
Darren Aronofsky: "No."

Not at all?
Darren Aronofsky: "Not at all related."

Then why even name it RoboCop?
Darren Aronofsky: "That I can't…that I don't want to answer." [actually Aronofsky did reveal the answer off the record, which is where it will remain]

So you've done the treatment, when do you expect to film? Do you have a date?
Darren Aronofsky: "I don't know. No, I mean first we have to have a script and then the studio wants the names. So that's a big step, we're waiting for that, you know, so we have to get the script."

ugh. :(

Well. I'll be honest. I really liked Robocop 1 & 2, When they were released in theaters back in the day. Their even fun to watch on cable when they are. But you have to admit RC's design is a bit dated and his movements are very limited! I personally wish they'd take the original concept and expand, remodel and update his abilities!
He's so slow and cumbersome. I'd like to see him run & jump and actively fight groups of bad guys at once.

But I get the feeling that these guys are going to create something new and call it Robocop. Something like maybe a super soldier mixed with Ironman.

Hmm...interesting. And probably a good thing.

Anyone seen the extras for The Fountain..?

At least this remake has a good director. If it end up better than the first one we all win. Probably with remakes is that they rarely are worth the time and when they are worse than the previous film they end up hurting that film too.
