Robocop 30th anniversary

I grew up watching Robocop 2 more than Robocop. No, the score isn't as good as the first film's, but still has some great moments. Especially that main theme and some of the underlying Robocain stuff.

what I love about its score is that its scored in many places like some classic 50s movie, which adds to the very surreal feel of the film. I love the addition of angelic choir . The entire movie is very bizzare and surreal - its very mean and hard r, yet its, like I said, scored like an old movie and is extremely colorful visually. Love it

That scene of Robocop dismantled on the ground after getting chucked out the limo always freaked me out as a kid.

I dunno. The Melting Man scared the crap out of me like nothing else in Robo films. I still feel uneasy when I watch that scene, because it reminds me of how I experienced it when I was a kid.

The creepiest scene in Robo 2 for me was the surgery. Ouch. Also street violence scene was super-mean. Girls stabbing a guy in the eye with a heel. Jesus... Even jokes couldn't compensate for it.

One of my favorite movies. A perfect blend of science-fiction, human drama, an epic story of resurrection and biting satire.

The cast is on a roll, the script is smart and tight, and Paul Verhoeven is simply a genius.

Don't like either one of the sequels.

I agree I remembered seeing the teaser for part 2 and how it had the R1 score and was like WTF when R2 hit theaters :loco:

A few years ago somebody had on YouTube a version of the last fight (when Robo jumps on RoboCain's back and wrestles his brain out) but they'd laid the original score over the top. Worked a darn treat.

Reason why Peter Weller Didn't Participate in the RoboDoc
RoboCop Archive said:
Actor Peter Weller and screenwriter Ed Neumeier joined up for Discussion at the Feb 9 ROBOCOP screening at the Egyptian Theatre. Weller WAS asked about his non participation in the ROBODOC documentary and the answer was that he is tired of talking about RoboCop. He doesn't feel he has anything else to add to the documentary. All the information is out there for everyone to find.

The only reason why he did the discussion this day was because of the recent passing of Miguel Ferrer and that the owner of Egyptian theater asked him to come and talk about the movie.

Mate it was the 80's and even in the 90's you could get away with such things. :awesome:

I used to work in a movie theatre and parents would take their kids to see R rated movies (or as they're called in Canada "Rated 18-A") even in the early 2000's. You wouldn't believe how many parents took their kids to see "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut".

The scene where Ameo (sp?) hits the acid freaked me out as a kid. I was watching Robocop on network TV one day and the part where Clarence hits him & splatters him in the 2000SUX was changed to Clarence just going around him. Everyone I've talked to for years has stated they've never seen this change but I swear it happened. I remember being jaw drop shocked when I saw it.

As for RoboCop 2, I loved it as well. The foul mouthed teen always seemed like an out of place character to me. I consider 1 & 2 the only "REAL" RoboCop movies...

Dude I totally remember that change. It was not too uncommon for many movies to film alternate takes, not only to give the production options during the assembly of the movie but also for broadcast versions.

sad that Bob Morton is now dead for real, it's a shame we lost an underrated actor.

The media thought RoboCop 2 was going to be #1 at the box office, but it actually came in at #2 on it's opening weekend. Dick Tracy claimed the #1 spot for a 2nd week. Not only Robo 2 cost more than Robo 1 to make but it actually made less than Robo 1 at the box office. So Robo 2 wasn't as "big" as they thought it was going to be.

RoboCop is one of my favorite movies of all time. The sequels aren't as good but I like RoboCop 3. I have never really liked the 2nd one. I don't like the tone and it doesn't have the theme music.

I was 12 when I saw Robocop for the first time. Yes, Dad did rent the movie out on VHS and he did have regrets suggesting that I not continue watching, but I soldiered through the film lol. Looking back I just cannot get over the gratuitous violence the film conveyed. So over the top that I find it laughable in this day in age. Robocop 2 was okay and as for 3 - while not all that great, it does seem to be the movie I have ended up seeing the most due to reruns on cable etc.

I didn't mind the 2014 Jose Padilha film and I know it could have been a better film as I do think studio intervention prevented the movie that Jose really wanted to make - and I also think that's a shame.

I was 4 or 5 years old first time I saw Robocop, yes I was really young but I loved it. Tbh I'm suprised my parents let me watch it but they did. It's one of my top 5 films of all-time, flawless movie and a flawless soundtrack.

Loved Robcop and Weller's Murphy when I first saw it.

Verhoeven went on a roll with a series of films in the 1990s: 'Total Recall', 'Basic Instinct', 'Showgirls' & 'Starship Troopers'. All except for Showgirls were excellent.

As a huge fan of Verhoeven's movies. It's surreal to see America become one.
