RoboCop Reboot

I'm more concerned with how they are going to handle the look of the costume, will they stick closley to the original design or give it a overhaul, and more importantly will he still use his trusty Auto-9!

I would think they would stay close to look. With maybe a little streamling in places.

I hope the Auto-9 remains the same as does the costume, but I wouldn't mind having a slightly updated, modernized look so long as it's still recognizable as RoboCop.

As I said a few pages back. One thing that has to stay relatively identical is his helmet. That is the most iconic part of the character. They can tinker and streamline the body for the most part without it being a problem but if they radically change the helmet then it ceases to be Robocop.

They must tread carefully with the helmet most importantly.

On the subject of designs, I hope ED-209's design isn't altered. That's still an awesome design that all these years later is still cool and menacing.

Yeah the ED-209 is a great design. I also wonder if they will make Robocop more mobile, perhaps speed his movement up a bit. I personally loved the way Weller portrayed the mechanical movements with the turn of his head then torso, I wonder if they will mimic this or go in a different direction with a more Iron Man type of articulation.

i hope the look of Robocop is a cross between the classic look and Iron Man suit. a more modern look that still retains a classic feel to it.

Hopefully they'll go with Weller's miming, I think that was a big part of what made him so good in the role with the movements he made in the suit.

I think that is what made it so convincing back then, he really threw himself into that role, and if i'm not mistaken im sure on the documentary it does say that he had a background in mime before he played Murphy?

Even if they streamline arms/legs they could still have actor run/walk in liue of weller way/robotic like.

It's so amazing that a movie like Robocop back then was so well designed.

Yes. The special features on the 20th anniversary DVD set go into great detail about that.

Also this rare interview where he talks more about it:

I would be open to Fassbender as Robocop. And a friend once suggested Walton Goggins for Clarence Boddicker. :)

Oh and Joel Kinnaman would be a fantastic choice too. He's awesome on the Killing indeed!

Walton wouldn't be bad for Clarence, but I think he's a better fit for Cain if RoboCop 2 got remade. Something about him just seems more suited for Cain for some reason. But he wouldn't be a bad Clarence at all.

If I had to cast a new Clarence Boddicker, I can definitely see Hugo Weaving doing him well.

Guys, we all know the best choice for Clarence -

the sound Robocop makes when he moves is just as iconic as the way he moves. The "whirring" and the "stomp" of his footsteps

Yeah, oh yeah, all the way. The stomp of his footsteps are a trademark. It should definetely be there.

As for the looks, I hope they stay true to the original, but I also don't want them to be influenced by the success of Iron Man. That's a human in a suit, while Robocop is half man/half machine. I think if they improve something, should be to enhance that characteristic.

They'll probably do the CGI/Iron Man method and save the new actor a TON of weight

The days of robocop actors needing cold air pumped into the suit between takes are long gone.

Although having to wear the entire suit will help the actor with the way he moves. Being physically restricted might be a good thing lol

Cranston would be an awesome Clarence if not Dick Jones.

Oh yes. I love the part when he first walks into the police precint behind the frosted glass in the first Robo.

That's a great shot.

I also hope they get a really great composer for this. Basil Poledouris score was so incredibly emotive and resonant.

It's probably one of my favorites score for any movie.

I still get goosebumps when I watch that scene. The whirring and the footsteps, just add to that scene tenfold.
