So he's definetly Murphy? interesting.

I've seen that picture of Downey JNR a few times, was the whole film filmed like that, did he never really wear the full suit. kinda a shame really.

I don't know if he'll be playing a new Murphy or even perhaps a new character but I know I'm happy with him as the lead and with Padilha directing this, the results should be interesting. This leaves me with an optimistic feeling so far.

It says title role, so he's definetly Robocop, whether Robo is still Murphy we dont know, but i would imagine he is.

Just read the news that joel is confirmed for robocop. Congrats to him. Can't wait to see how he turns out as murphy.

Great, now they can get this baby going!
*dead or alive, you're filming with me*

Excellent. Now I'm actually interested in this film.

is there any manips of him in the costume or any leaked artwork aside from the stuff when it was under Aronofsky.

Cool to hear Kinnaman landed the part. I see him doing justice to the character.

Great to have a name attached now, will be very interesting seeing what they will do with the film.

Congrats to a fellow Swede! :D

I'm casually optimistic for this remake/reboot. The first movie is amazing but the themes and the story really has the potential to be taken further or in a different direction and still be great, something the sequels mostly failed with.

I hope this retains some of the original elements of RoboCop. Verhoeven's vision was great. Lets see what Jose Padilha can do.

I dont think there has been any talk of suit/designs since the new director came on. But my guess we will hear something before filming starts in a few months or when ever it is. I wonder who is doing sfx/props and all that. I hope for the likes of legacy effects, and ILM. Also would any one want/hope weller does a cameo in the film? Or speaking of which since the talk of reboot happened has there been any mention of what weller thinks of it?

yeah it'd be interesting to see what Weller thinks, As for his cameo role that'd be great but i cant think who he could play, maybe a technician who builds robo. possibly doctor Mcnamara?

It'd be neat if he were the chief police officer. That would be a good role for him.

it would but i think such a prominent role for him might take out of the film to much. I'd love to see him appear, same with Kurtwood smith, but only in minor roles.

It wasn't even that prominent of a role in the first film. The police chief had a total of 5 minutes of screen time max.

Really, i thought he was in it much more, if thats the case that'd be perfect. weller as the police chief, Smith as Dr. Macnamara.

Thing is though that this movie apparently spend way more time during the in between period while they're creating Robocop so the role of the police chief might be bigger than it was in the original film. Knowing Jose Padilha's style he'll probably delve deep into the bureaucracy aspect of the police department and OCP so the role may be far more extensive.

So you may still be right in that they'd have to get someone else. We'll see I guess. If the role isn't that extensive than I think Weller should get it. If not then they should go with someone else as you suggested.

i really cant see how they are going to do what the new director says 'its between the two cuts'. Thats not robocop. Verhoven did it perfectly, we dont need to see the in's and outs of making him, what little we got 'full body prosthesis' worked fine.

The whole story of robocop is a family man dying and being brought back and how he copes and adjusts to the way his is now while hunting down those that took his life. While i dont mind a new director putting his own stamp on the film, i hope he does not move away too much from the original.

Maybe Peter Weller could be a fellow police officer, and he's about to take the ill fated call but then Joel Kinnaman goes instead saying to Peter Weller 'your too old for this one'

@B.A Baracus Yeah I hope it doesn't stray off too much either although based on his Tropa De Elite series he seems to be incredibly gifted at juggling both the emotional and family aspects of the titular character while delving head into the bureaucratic nonsense of it all and tying it all together quite nicely.

He's great at that and that's a big reason I think why he was picked for this. I seriously recommend for you to watch both of those movies and you'll get what I'm saying.

That would be great, a nice nod.

I've not seen it, but i'm going to have to, give me some idea of what to expect from him, is his direction in the same vein as Verhoven? if not who would you compare him to?

He's quite different from Verhoeven. If I had to explain his style it'd be a mixture of Michael Mann with hints of his fellow Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles (City of God).

I will tell you this. The second Tropa De Elite is far more refined than the first movie. In terms of storytelling, pacing and camerawork (especially the camerawork). It is important to see both though not only to understand the plot line but to see the immense growth as a director Padilha achieves just between those two movies.

I highly recommend those movies. I personally had a great time watching them.

I'd also really like to see if they keep with using the brilliant idea of showing the adverts like the 'Magna-Volt' and stuff, because I really think that helped immerse the audience into the world.
