RoboCop Reboot

Ya but it would have cost more to have a writer to start from scratch, and take a longer time, they wanted to pump that sequel out as quickly as possible.

Agree, and even with the character development somewhat lacking it's still forgivable since the character stuff is already in the first movie, so you know what the deal is with the likes of Murphy and Lewis going into the second one. I enjoyed RoboCop 2 for what it was, a fun action ride that brought RoboCop back.

It took steps forward and backwards

Forward

-The scene where Murphy's wife visits him

Backwards(IMO)

-The injected comedy where Robocop is reprogrammed

"Don't worry, We're only human"

Something about the way that was said was more comedic sounding. I really didn't like that.

Didn't the kid in RoboCop 2 go on to star in "Not Another Teen Movie" "Dumb and Dumberer" and "Beerfest?" Hahah, that guy is great.

He wasn't in any of those movies. lol

He did play Littlefoot from the Land Before Time though. Kind of funny knowing that this kid played such a sweetheart, beloved children's character and then went on to play that little demon Hob in Robocop 2. :funny:

He must've had a fun time playing such a character in RoboCop 2 at that age :funny:

So he's definetly Murphy? interesting.

I've seen that picture of Downey JNR a few times, was the whole film filmed like that, did he never really wear the full suit. kinda a shame really.

Dunno if you have the first Iron Man movie on dvd , but if you have watch the extras. There a scene where the guys at Stan Winston's company built a full size version of the suit and had a stunt guy walking in it. It severy limited his movements.
Which is why Favreau decided to use the imocap suit and parts of the suit for the actors in the sequel. It helped them move more better and also give them a sense of feeling when they wore the partial suit.

I'd love to see Robocop go all out with him running etc. though it's obvious at this stage that CGI ( just like in the IM movies) is the only way to go.
IT's a question of whether the VFX prices can be lowered to such an extent that the can pull off the movie with a r rating.

The only redesign of Robocop I would be comfortable with is if they gave him the same finish that RoboCable from the made-for-tv series of films had. Sorta shiny-black-metallic

Well I am sure there would be a mix of full pratical suit for just standing around/posing scenes. Then like I'm for any big action scenes/a lot of moving a half suit/half mocap to cgi in later deal. It probably will count on bbudget for film and who is doing visual/pratical effects. Which I hope will be legacy effects, and ilm.

I wouldn't mind that so long as the suit looks much better than the ones used in the Prime Directives series. Looked so cheap, although the silvery black shine RoboCable has looks kinda cool.

I'd kinda like them to redesign the pectoral area so Robocop doesn't look like he has pancake boobs.

Can someone post comparion pics from the films, tv show, and prime directrives mini of robo?

@boxofficemojo: Some late Friday release date news: Sony has slated the 'Robocop' reboot for August 2013, 'Cloudy 2' for X-Mas 2013... http://t.co/PQM2j5Ut

Good, now I have something to mark on my calendar.

I guess that means this summer/fall for principal photography?

According to the front page...it's not a reboot. It takes place during events not shown in the first movie

"In the first 'RoboCop' when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?"

So, thread title change?

I think you are getting things mixed up power. Its been said many times over it is a reboot. Hell if it was only to be set before he became robocop then that isnt much of a film there. Joe has just said in many interviews this robocop reboot we will see more of how robo was created and the dynamic between being man and machine. Not that it isnt a reboot.

also sweet to have release date. Cant wait to see production start up in the coming months.

^ I believe that means the movie's focus is on the process of Alex Murphy becoming Robocop, not that it's a "sidesequel" to the original movie. He's explaining that a part of the story that the original movie overlooked is their main focus.
