Drama Rocky/Creed Cinematic Universe Thread

Why cause DMX sucks. :o

I'm still waiting on a movie trailer to use "F*** yall" by DMX.

Great trailer. Just wish Ivan Drago could have had some dialogue. Preferably with Rocky.

Gotta hit the gym after that trailer.

Neat trailer. Drago looking mean as hell.

So it seems they traded in cold mountains for hot desert in looking for an austere, rural training setting. Like what I see so far but I do wish they wouldn't make younger Drago out to be an almost mute like his dad in Rocky IV.

DMX is the go-to for trailer music now. This, Deadpool and soon... First Man.
"That's one small step for man....one...giant leap for WHERE THE HOOD WHERE THE HOOD WHERE THE HOOD AT"

Anyway, this looks like a blend of Rocky II-IV but I ain't mad because I enjoy watching these actors anyway.

Cool trailer. Doesn't pack the punch (LOLZ) of the equivalent trailer from the previous movie, but still.

Hippity-hops aside...really liking what we're seeing. Second one's pretty awesome.

Wondering what the deal is with Ivan, too, jeez. His kid was "raised in hate"? And that look he gives Rocky in the ring? It's not like they were quite all hug-it-out at the end of IV, no, but Ivan definitely seemed to have a bit of a turnaround there. Mostly the "I fight for me" stuff, individuality, but you'd figure he'd have thawed a little on Rocky on a personal level too. Seems a little odd, interested to see where they go with that.

Stallone seems to have dropped a little bit of the ol' Rocky "dumb guy voice" in Creed and now the sequel, too, kinda interesting. It's still there to an extent, but he does sound a little more "regular Stallone" in the role these days.

I was thinking the same about Drago. I think it's likely his life turned to **** after his loss to Rocky (not only losing to an American champ on home soil at the height of the Cold War, but choking out an official and screaming "I fight for me!!" etc), which no doubt affected his sons life, so now both harbour a grudge .

Gotta hit the gym after that trailer.

Man, tell me about it. MBJ just looks insane.

Yeah. I'm probably pulling this out of my ass here, so vague on it memory-wise, but wasn't there some supplementary not-exactly-canon material out there hinting he was sent to a gulag or whatever after what he did in IV? Might be hallucinating, heh, but seem to recall someone talking about something - a comic, a tie-in novel/epilogue, something.

But even then, you'd think that would just further his rejection of the old-timey commies themselves (which, let's be honest, was what Stallone was trying to get across there - the individual triumphing over the idea of collectivism, the worker-bee/drone mentality of the USSR), rather than focusing it all on Rocky as the cause. And hell, Gorbachev was all "whoo, Rocky!" conciliatory at the end there, you wouldn't figure he'd be on the punish-Ivan-for-losing train.

I sort of assumed we might be getting a "trying to put his son on the right path, prevent the same mistakes being made all over again" schtick from Drago Sr., but certainly doesn't look that way from the trailer. Ol' Spikey-Hair's pissed.

And like 9 personal trainers and 3 personal chefs and a couple million bucks as a motivator. :oldrazz:

Trailer looks very good.

Despite the reconciliation themes at the end of Rocky IV, I would imagine that Drago's life went to $hit once the collective adrenalin wore off - not only had he lost to Rocky (symbolic of Russia losing to the USA), but the Ruskies had also made a significant investment in building him into a super-warrior. That was all for nothing once he lost this huge fight against a smaller and seemingly weaker opponent.

It will be interesting to see if the film explores an angle where he blames Rocky for all of this and that hate has rubbed off on his son. Meanwhile, Adonis is carrying the baggage of knowing this guy's father killed his father. There's a lot of themes that can be tapped into there; hate, forgiveness, the sins of the father, so on.

Something I hadn't really considered also could be the unexpected notion of Rocky himself carrying resentment towards Drago. Let's not forget, Rocky's career was essentially ended by Drago's punches (at least until the retconned the brain damage angle to some extent in Rocky Balboa).

I loved the new trailer, I loved the conflict over why Adonis feels the need to take the fight, I loved the dialog from Rocky and the dynamic between Adonis and Bianca, and I loved the way they framed Drago jr, he looked beastly, and that double shot of him squaring up with Creed and Ivan Drago and Rocky face to face gave me chills. :D

Couple of interesting things, when Rocky says "That kid was raised in hate" about Drago's son and we see him training, it made me wonder if they used MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov as the basis for Victor Drago, I also wonder what the deal is with the desert training, and if the black shorts are from an earlier fight and he wears his Dad's red, white and blue shorts for the big final fight.

This is now my #1 most anticipated movie for the fourth quarter of the year, ahead of Aquaman with Halloween in 3rd spot.

I imagine Ivan losing did not go down well back in the USSR and there was consequences to losing to Rocky (hence the raised in hate comment). I can see Drago Jr calling our Adonis as trying to regain some sort of redemption for his father in the eyes of the Russian public after possibly falling from grace back in Russia.

Rocky might say some stuff about Ivan's son Victor that makes things frosty between them.

That new trailer is pretty great. Can't wait to see the confrontation between Rocky and Drago after all these years.

Dolph said a few years ago (when asked about Drago's fate after IV) that as far as he was concerned, he always imagined that Drago was sent to Siberia as punishment. But that was obviously unofficial.

Be interesting to see if that made it in there.

Except we literally see the head of the USSR clapping at Rocky's whole "we can all change, let's just find a way to get along blah blah blah" speech at the end. Not sure Gorbachev would be actively supporting ruining Drago over it. Though there's wiggle room there of course, some other government element sending him away or whatever and Gorbachev doesn't know about it.

Oh, he clapped? That settles it then. If someone claps there is no way they can do something screwed up afterward. Those are the rules. :awesome:
