Drama Rocky/Creed Cinematic Universe Thread

I don't think there's a single bad movie in the franchise. Rocky V may have tonal issues, but there's many scenes that make it enjoyable.

Rocky V is super underrated IMO, and I never got the hate for it. It might not be as good as some of the previous movies in the franchise, but I actually use to prefer it over Rocky IV.

I have always found the back-to-basics approach for Rocky and how they handled the Tommy Gunn character to be far more interesting and compelling from a storytelling standpoint.

I mean maybe that's just me though although Creed 2 definitely made me appreciate Rocky IV more in a way with how they handled the Drago stuff in that movie which I thought was pretty satisfying.

Rocky V has always been my least favorite of the original series, but I always still loved it. And man, that scene with Mickey? I cry every time. it's a good movie.

I was watching the Creed 3 review on Double Toasted and they were talking about how Creed 2 added a childish, macho attitude to Adonis out of nowhere that didn't fit with the character from the first and I agree with that.
He definitely has a bit of arrogance to himself. I could buy the motivation he wanted to fight Viktor to “avenge” his father but I couldn’t buy he wouldn’t be ready for how brutal Viktor would be.

I remember trying to watch Creed 1, it was awfull, its standard formulatic, let this Rocky franchise to rest, its enough now.

I guess they missed this stuff from the first movie

Baby Creed is a trigger word for Adonis even in Creed 3

Him wanting to avenge his father was somewhat reasonable I guess, but his behavior was out of character. In the first he was presented as respectful and coachable, but that chip on his shoulder would get the best of him sometimes. In Creed II he's just going around antagonizing everyone during the first Drago fight then is back to his Creed personality in the second fight. It's odd.

I always took it as he was still dealing with his father issues. He was fighting the first fight to avenge his dad. He is no longer outwardly angry at his dad but he is still grieving a man who he never met and who in a sense left him alone.
By the second fight he is no longer fighting for his dad. He is fighting for himself and for his family and for his love of boxing. That was the point of his monologue to Apollo at the grave sight after the fight.
He was messed up in the head in the first fight. Rocky even said as much.

I still like Ricky V, but one thing that bugs me is what a snot his son is. I mean, he constantly runs in and interrupts his dad at work and when Rocky says “that’s great son, let’s talk a little later” he pouts and accuses his dad of turning his back on him. ROCKY IS AT WORK you little punk! Let the man work. Talk to him later.

I think the primary thing that hurts Rocky V is the laughably bad soundtrack. Also its really rushed in its final 45 minutes.

That said while everyone agrees the Creed films have really elevated Rocky IV, I think they elevate Rocky V as well. Considering how things went down with Tommy Gunn it was always in my head canon that it was one of the reasons why Rocky was so apprehensive of training Donnie when they first met, and there's something really beautiful that it was Adonis who wanted him to be family, which was something Rocky wanted with Tommy. I don't know if that was Coogler's vision but for me the connection works.

With this level of success MBJ is definitely getting more high-profile directing opportunities in the future which is great news considering how young he is and the promise he showed here.

This movie deserves every penny and then some.

Bodes well.
Not sure when I'll get the chance to check it out, but glad to see it doing well.
No surprise, this Rocky spin-off has been such high quality, wonder how much longer these films can go on for while continuously getting accolades.

Also wasn’t surprised by this. Dude has a big future ahead. I’ll be interested to see what films he goes for outside of Creed when he’s ready.

Very good movie. Majors is great, loved the story, and fights were well done. I may rank this top of the Creed trilogy. Rocky will always be king of the franchise, and Creed/Rocky were the reason to watch first movie, but the main baddie in Creed was fairly weak. Majors easily is the most interesting nemesis of this trilogy.

This was better than Creed II but still doesn’t top the first one for me.

The only place that Rocky was missed was in the training montage. It felt odd that Rocky wouldn’t be there, especially when Stitch was.

Besides that, it felt like this series finally became its own thing and out of Rocky’s shadow. The final match was shot unlike anything welded ever seen in the series. Anderson was the best opponent we’ve had since Ivan Drago, although I wish he had fought a little more fair in the fight against Chavez.

The only thing that bugged me was there didn’t really seem to be a resolution to Amara’s story about not always using your fists.
