I’d rather have Coogler back. He’s been hit or miss directing the franchise.

Had a feeling that this would happen with Coogler working on Black Panther.

Still not sure how I feel about this.

With all the respect to Sly in the world, They really couldn't wait for Coogler?

Coogler was going to be busy with reshoots for BP, post production and marketing the movie.

Stallone probably feels like its best to get this movie out in 2018 and not wait another year. The original Rocky franchise waited 3 years before the next film not 4. (until after Rocky 4.)

Still to see the 1st Creed.
Story sounds fun for the sequal, who is playing Drago Jr?

I'm okay with Sly directing, but who's writing it?

He wrote it as well. If he was working from another script from Covington & Coogler I'd be less apprehensive than I currently am...

Nice. They best start filming it soon.

Sly's just about had a comeback every decade since his mega-star days (Cliffhanger in the 90's, the three-way KO of Rocky Balboa, John Rambo and The Expendables in the 00's and Creed this decade). Each time pulling himself out of a (self-inflicted) rut with a genuinely good movie... wherein he immediately gives into his worst instincts and delivers a string of hot garbage - the exact same crap that took him straight to the bottom. Lather, rinse, repeat.

If any Creed sequel lacks Coogler, then I'm out. He was why it worked with respect to Sly (who certainly didn't "need" to come back after Rocky Balboa beautifully closed out the franchise and character). Bringing in Drago just shows Sly yet again hasn't learned from his past failures and taking the wrong lessons from his returns-to-glory.

Bringing in Drago (and his son?!) just feels cheap to me. Will we get to face off with Tommy Gunn’s son (Son of a Gunn!) in Creed 3?

I don't see why at least bringing Draco back is a terrible idea.

Let's face it, there's some good potential with Adonis confronting the man who killed his father and coming to terms with it. Not necessarily in a boxing fight, but you get what I mean.

It's not a terrible idea. It's just...idk I guess "hokey" would be the word

I think there couldve been a good scene of Adonis finding Ivan who is all destroyed from the steroid use and all that, but to have his son.

Eh. But then again, I'm on record saying that the original idea for Creed is hokey soo we'll see

It is very hokey and it is a terrible idea. The reason Rocky IV worked was because it was the 1980s. Even then, a lot of Rocky IV's appeal is for how campy and goofy it is. People like it almost ironically.

Didn't Drago also respect Rocky and embrace him at the end? Why would they still be enemies? Why would Adonis have to be enemies with his son? It just seems silly.

Adonis is the one who will seek revenge. Not Rocky. This is the Creed franchise.

OK revenge for what exactly? He's the illegitimate son of a man he never met and who never even knew he existed. He was adopted by his deadbeat father's widow because she was a gracious, forgiving and unselfish woman.

Well the dead part is right, at any rate.

But yeah, the return to Drago doesn't interest me. Maybe the final product will change my mind.

Well it's tough to ignore the fact that Creed had to retcon in the fact that Apollo Creed was a womanizer who was having children out of wedlock.

But as you pointed out Apollo never knew Adonis existed, since he was killed before Adonis was born. He's a deadbeat in the sense that Drago beat on him until he was dead.

As a big fan of Dolph I'm stoked that we're going to see him in Creed 2 - whether people consider Drago's inclusion hokey or not the character [much like Clubber Lang] wouldn't have just disappeared into thin air after his defeat to Rocky - I'm definitely interested in learning what happened to him and where he is now. I know Dolph had previously favoured the idea that Drago was sent to exile in Siberia - will be interesting to see if something like that has made its way into the movie.
