Rumor: WW Movie Is Not Going To Happen

It's almost been a week. "Flash" has a new director, but no news on WW.

OK, my turn! :p

Selene, you said the fans should make the superhero movies because of the way the studios treat them(or words to that affect), so I propose this: How about WB make like Searchlight and find the best amature fanflick maker to handle this?! Spider Time has made a good number of fanflicks that would have been great movies had he the money and support of a studio. Think Wakko, Yakko and Dot would EVER go for that?

There are a lot of superhero movies out there indeed, but NO Female Superhero movies. There is a hungry market out there just waiting for the first lady of superheres to make her big screen debut. The only thing is that it has to be done RIGHT. If it is done carelessly, it will simply be another Ultraviolet, Elektra or Catwoman fiasco. Wonder Woman has to be entrusted to someone capable of bringing her to modern day audiences. I am glad Whedon is off the project. His ego was morphing our heroine into something else. We need someone who loves and appreciates who Wonder Woman is, and doesnt want to change her but build on what is already there.

Wonder Woman can be a success. Superman was a MILD success only because it was a simple metamovie--a movie about an existing Superman movie with nothing new to show us. After all, everything had already been seen in Superman I and II. The Director gave us nothing New--just a fanboy's rendition of what he loved so much as a child. We were expecting innovation and we instead got a recycled plot.

Thats becuse women... how should I put this??? They can't handle the superhero concept. Hence, the men spend more money on movies and specfically Superhero films. Most guys don't want to live vicariousley through a woman.

The first Lara Croft was a hit. And that wasn't even good.

The fact is that Joel Silver probably dropped Wonder Woman for another movie based on a comic-book, starring a female character and distributed by Warner Bros, Whiteout.

The thing is that Whiteout is in the budget range to be produced by Silver with the financing of the CIT Group, something he probably will opt to do with all of his future production. Wonder Woman would probably have a budget of more than 50 million, so it was shelved. Maybe the control of the rights will revert to WB soon.

Not to mention that it stars Kate Beckinsale, one of my favorite actress's. Underworld is one of the few Female action heros that was a success other then Lara Croft.
In this Monthes Premire there is a new article about Speed Racer and some info on its history. :)

Lara Croft isn't exactly a 'super-hero.'
If you want to get technical about it, no. But she is a female lead in an action movie - a genre that, like superheroes, are geared primarily towards men. I really don't see how a bad Lara Croft movie would make money and a good movie staring a female superhero wouldn't or couldn't.

Power. There's the issue of how much power a man will accept a woman can have. It's that, and the clothes they wear.

That may be a problem for mysogenistic *******s. But not every man on Earth is a mysogenistic *******.

And where is there any proof that the large majority of men are that mysogenistic? As it has already been stated, there hasn't been a really legit female superhero movie yet. And, as was also stated, Underworld did pretty well with Selene being quite powerful.

Hollywood is still run by old fashioned foggies. And companies do want a huge return from a large investment.

This movie was dead from day 1. No one wants to see a WW movie made except the biggest fanboys. I say good job WB for making a smart decision.

Wow. I can't believe I missed the election of spokesperson for the entire human race. Congrats on the win, man.

That's true.

Just like Tomb Raider, casting and timing are key factors in whether or not the WW film will truly succeed or fail at the box office. If these two factor's (amongst other things) are in WW's favor with the general public upon it's release date, there's simply no reason why the film wouldnt be a financial success.

Tomb Raider had several things going for it that WW doesn't:

It had at the time it was made a far larger fan base then WW currently has. That game sold millions of copies as opposed to the 20,000 to 30,000 copies of WW comics normally sold in a month. In addition it is one of the few video games easily adaptable to film (basically a female Indiana Jones).

Tomb Raider also got probably the only really sucessful female action hero at the moment as its star. Between Tomb Raider and Mr. and Mrs. Smith Angelina Jolie seems to be the only actress who can open or help open an action movie. Every thing I hear about WW is that they will probably use an unknown so I don't see casting being a strong selling point for this movie.

The problem with that is, we really don't know WHO is going to be cast as WW. Be it that of a known actress, or an unknown actress. At this stage in the game (especially after the departure of Whedon), the ballpark is, and should be pretty wide open as far as potential actresses who may end up playing Wonder Woman.

What WW does have going for it, is name recognition, and that the film will be the origin story of a DC comics character that has been around for more than 60+ years. You think that wouldnt get attention from the general public? Especially with films based on funny books these days being hot properties with Hollywood studios these days.

With Tomb Raider, I believe Angelina Jolie was without a doubt that films strongest selling point. As there have been decent amount of films based on extremely successful video games that followed since the success of Tomb Raider (some being completely horrid BTW), but apparently that doesnt always promise a big hit like the first Tomb Raider at the box office. And there's a reason for that I believe. Like I said, casting can be crucial in films like these. Now if Silver & WB can come up with the director who truly has a passion for making a WW film, a great story, and an actress, whether she be a unknown or a name, that the public embraces in the role of WW like Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft back in 2001, then I think the potential success for the film would be very likely at hand.

Thanks for the support. :whatever: But Silver claims he still wants to get it done.

Hopefully they just rework her introduction into the JLA movie, if she is received as popular in it.....they can give her her own movie afterwards.

A spinoff from a team movie is as possible as spinoffs from TV series. It's not a sure thing.
