Yinsen's death. Not only was it truly sad but he didn't resurrect or threw a one-liner, like most important characters that "die."

Rocket talking about his creation was pretty sad.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Fury: You've been asleep, Cap. For almost 70 years. [Steve is silent with shock] You gonna be okay?
Rogers: Yeah. Yeah, I just... I had a date.

I chose Cap being crashing the ship into the ice.
Peggy with Alzheimers and Groot's sacrifice made me tear up though. :(

-Yinsen's death in IRON MAN
-Hulk leaving Betty in TIH
-Loki's "death" in THOR
-Erskine's death and Cap's sacrifice in TFA
-Tony entering the wormhole in THE AVENGERS
-Frigga's death and funeral in TDW
-Cap and Peggy,'end of the line' in TWS
-Meredith Quill's death and 'we are Groot' in GOTG

The Cap and Peggy scene in Winter Solider

Cap crashing into the ice

Drunk Rocket

Bruce and Betty not being able to "embrace" in fear that the Hulk would come out.

......Alhough I'm not all that sure if Betty would have mind.

Starlord reading his mom's letter years later after she had died, giving him her awesome mix tape 2! Mannnnn! That one got me!!!

this would be my#2
Rocket talking about his creation was pretty sad.
yep! that one got me too.

Quill losing his mother. There is nothing comparable in the MCU to a child losing their only parent.

-Frigga's death and funeral in TDW

Completely forgot about this but yeah the funeral scene was very sad with all the boats being set off and releasing those orbs into the sky, very emotional.

For me it has to be the death of Coulson in the avengers but honourable mention definitely goes to captain america's conversation with Peggy. It's so sad because you can see he has been dealing with her Alzheimer's quietly without telling anyone what the effect of that on his mental health has been as well as for poor peggy

Agreed on all accounts.

Death of Coulson has to win, because when it actually happened I went into hard denial. Oh, Fury is just lying he didn't really die and STOP LYING TO ME FURY!

Then the Peggy scene... It still chokes me up, just because you can see how much Steve is hurting and how it all connects back to his inability to let go of the past and yet he's putting himself through this.

Bonus points for Natasha's scene during Fur's death. My mom isn't a comic book lover and even she knew Fury wasn't dead - I mean, it's pretty obvious that the spy of all spies has a back up plan. But Natasha's reaction is totally genuine.

A child losing a parent and a parent losing a child is always the saddest but I felt the execution was a bit off in acting, writing and direction for that scene. Though I felt really horrible for the grandfather who lost the most that day and then is forgotten.

The saddest for me is the one two punch of Steve going down into the ice and his last words with Peggy then the next time they're together we see on her dresser all the photos of the years in between and all that they lost the chance of together. Then the gut punch that she has Dementia which plunges her back into the fresh grief of the past and the longing for his return and we know it happens but it's too late. Add to that, this scene is probably oft repeated as their ease together pre Dementia episode indicates he visits regularly. :csad:

I was just about to mention this, I was thinking the very last line of the movie is sad. You can feel his pain and disappointment, putting that together with the fact that he's seeing New York/Times Square, but not how he remembers it. Why has nobody else mentioned it? Thank you, seriously!

Steve visiting Peggy in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Probably Cap visiting Peggy.

Groot was never in any danger. The "WE are Groot" line was one of the few missteps of a great movie because it telegraphed his return before he even left.

What got me there was the relationship he had with Rocket. Watching the one being that was a real friend get thrashed? Rocket's self-loathing toward his creation, combined with his emotional background with Groot is what made it sad for me. Even if your friend's coming back, watching em die ain't easy.

Going to have to agree with Peggy's dementia being the saddest,
and Quill's mother's death from cancer being the second saddest.

The thing that perhaps makes Yinsen and Groot's deaths a bit less
sad was that they were both noble acts of self-sacrifice - and
deliberate choices. ( "We are Groot" is still pretty emotional)

Poor Peggy and Meredith Quill succumbed to those terrible hunters that
stalk us all in the real world, time and illness - they remind us of our own
mortality (unlike Cap and the rest of his super crew).

As for poor Meredith Quill, well I've lost loved ones to Cancer, and sad doesn't start to describe it. At least she got to say
good bye to Peter, whereas Peggy will barely even know herself, I suppose that
we know Peggy will eventually die, but it's the terrible loss of self that's she facing
- having lost 2 grandparents to Dementia, it's an awful way to go, in its own way
as horrible as cancer. In that way I find Peggy's dementia sadder, but that's just IMO.

I NEVER read GOTG before the film as did many of the general audiences so I was shocked by the death with Groot. I didn't see it coming or his return. OK his return... maybe, but I was very in the dark about it. But what got me was Rocket's reaction. Rocket is held up as basically an *******, who is greedy, sure of himself and they referred to Groot as his house plant and hired muscle. Hence, I had ASSUMED that is how Rocket saw Groot, not as a friend. But then seeing his reaction to his death was quite sad. Rocket really does care, there's more to him than just collecting a bounty.

Staying on GOTG is definitely the death of Star Lord's mother. My wife still does not get this scene. I admit, this has never happened to either of us, but I get it. Here a little boy will not reach out to his dying mother's hand. It's not because he's a jerk but because he cannot stand to see his own mother in such a weak state. He is still a child, this is his mother who is supposed to be strong, there for him, to take care of him, a guardian, someone who has to be strong for him. The kid is not stupid, he knows what's going on. What is to happen if she dies? Who will be there for him? He'd much not accept this fact at all. Which is not the right decision but is totally understandable.

Next is definitely Steve visiting Peggy in Winter Soldier. It's one of those depressing awkward moments where you're like next scene, next scene, leave the room, leave the room.

Practically all of Cap: TWS qualifies I'd say. It's an overall very sad and tragic film.

Quill's Mum dying was very sad. Steve and Peggy planning their dance knowing it will never happen is a very close second :csad:
