San Diego Comic-Con International 2009

Yes, he will be back..and alive and having adventures...but that doesnt mean he'll be active in the 616 and in avengers back to status quo by then...

The art was actually one of the things I really liked about the run. I really liked Epting and I wouldn't mind seeing him do some of the stuff I typically read. I didn't realize until later that he did the only run of Avengers pre-disassembled that I got into... the Proctor storyline back in the 90's.
His art on Cap looks pretty different from his art in that run (one of my favorites as well) because Tom Palmer inked the Avengers run, and he seems to be a pretty heavy-handed inker. You know the inker's doing more than just going over the penciler's art when virtually everything he's inked has a few similar elements.

Frankly I don't give 2 ****s about marvelman/miracleman

Marvel probably could have had...ROM SPACEKNIGHT, MICRONAUGHTS, and CONAN back for a lesser total. ( maybe throw in godzilla too)

Gay Marvel pandering to the trendy comic quasi-intellectual fair fan....

Miracleman and Alan Moore are overrated city.

zero interest...

Agreed. When I heard the news. my reaction was: who?

Being a comic book reader and not knowing Miracleman is like being a Hockey fan and not knowing who Wayne Gretzky was.

Who is this Alan Moore?! Did he write Clockmen?!

That's not true at all. I consider myself pretty well versed in comics lore, and I only have the vaguest notion of the property (and honestly, I only really know of it because of the controversy)

The thing that gets me is Marvelman is just a Superman re-hash that was made poinant by well recieved plotting /writing.

I say that becuase I really don't deal with Moore. Not that I utterly think he's garbage, but when I factor in his pretentious attitude it mostly ruins any thing that he's done to me.

Marvel has several could be great characters out there in limbo.

So IMO save some money and have Gaimen or Moore take a shot at Sentry, Hyperion? or somthing. I'd rather see Gaimen personally, I can deal with his ego a bit better and I personally consider him far more talented.

I'd much rather see a Gaimen Dr. Strange mini or somthing.

This SDCC seemed to have absolute **** comic news, to be honest... aside from the somewhat exciting Marvelman news, there was really nothing else.

I never had the chance to read the Moore/Gaiman runs of Marvelman, but everything I've read and heard from those who have it doesn't even sound close to just a simple Superman re-hash. Obviously the character of MM is taken from the Superman archetype, but I can honestly say you're the first person I've heard make that comparison.

Like I said somewhere else, you have to take into consideration "when" these comics were coming out... Moore's run on Marvelman ran from 1982 to 1988 ish... and the darker stories told were not the norm back then... some of it was litterally mind-blowing... you can say what you want about Moore over the years, but he was really in his prime in the 80's with such works as Marvelman, Swamp Thing & V for Vendetta...

EDIT: Never mind, on sound thought that is a bit obsessing

Thats somthing I really didnt think of, and I think you have a good point.

As for Marvelman himself, I just felt like on paper the archetype reminds me of a superman genre, whether its captain marvel that doesnt mean much..fact is the character himself is "unimportant"..it was the direction of the book and the writing, which makes me beg the question, why spend so much on a character that really is generic....not a generic book or depiction, but nothing marvel couldnt just start fresh.

When Marvel got together with Gaimen a few years ago with the idea of the mini-series 1602, all proceeds of the book went to Gaimen's legal company, Miracles & Marvels, with the intent of fighting McFarlane for the rights... legally.

Now that Marvel "owns" it, it would make lots of sense to let Gaimen finish his last 10 issues of his intended story. Gaimen's name is pretty golden in the industry, and if Marvel can re-release the old material... LOTS of SALES will occur... much moreso than with their own "captain marvel wanna-be" creation.

Gaimen finishing his Marvelman story is akin to the Holy Grail in comics... it will sell... and sell LOTS!!!

:yay:

I still doubt it will sell as well as you think...Miricleman is not even as well known outside fans as even say a watchmen.

No doubt hard core fans will buy several copies, but I doubt the figures will be as impressive as you say.

Just my prediction.

Maybe... I just know that LOTS of Gaimen fans nowadays were too young to read his Miracleman, and since the stuff is hard to get, and Gaimen himself has fought so hard to get it, legions will buy it... on his name only.

And that... is just my prediction. :cwink:

Yeah, Gamain's name would probably more than enough to make it fairly successful. Even if it wasn't a megablockbuster in singles it would probably be see pretty strong trade sales

I have to agree with some on marvelman. When Joe Q said that the internet would be talking I thought "Awesome because transformers did so well, and Gi:Joe is coming out Hasbro is letting Marvel have Rom back," sadly that isn't what we got. Now I heard some great things about Marvelman and I do wonder how there going to make it work. I just would have liked to have Rom back.

Well sales for Eternals were decent, but they werent legendary or anything.

Gaiman's Eternals mini wasn't as great as his name might imply it could have been, to be honest. I actually didn't really like what he did with the Eternals.

I got the Eternals HC for free at my LCS... I need to read it someday...

:o
