No kidding. Sue looks like Jay Leno with that jawline. And her teeth are angled strangely. And that chin...Ugh.
And Reed looks pretty un-Reedlike. The face is bad enough, but what's with the pear-shaped body?

I've watched some fans in comic shops "ooh" and "ahh" over crappy misrenderings like this for years. It's like they're blind to these off-model depictions simply because they're in a painted cover.

I mean it's a great-looking painting, but that's not Reed and Sue.

And I guess a pot-bellied Spider-Man would still be Spider-Man just because Marvel said so?

Whoever did this cover painting fell well short of capturing these characters. I don't care who the artist is.

As long as it "passes" for them it is them? 'Fraid not.

Listen, I said you were Roger Ebert because you were criticizing everything about the picture. But the point is that the Fantastic Four has never stayed the same artistically at least. For some people Kirby's drawing of the FF is the only true one, for some it's the Buscema brothers, for some it's John Byrne, etc. This is just another drawing, not every drawing has to be perfect.

Don't worry. It'll never stick. These things never do and besides, it wouldn't jibe with the movies.
Their near-divorce in '74 was fairly dramatic and effective. But I doubt we'll get anything near that caliber with this.

I'm still curious to see how Doom is going to figure into Civil War...
