Treme's Khandi Alexander has been tapped to play Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) mother on Scandal, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Alexander will play the recurring role of Maya Lewis in flashbacks starting this Thursday. As revealed during last week's episode, Maya apparently died on a civilian airliner that was shot down by Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) before he was President.

Alexander, who played LaDonna Batiste-Williams on the HBO drama Treme, is also known for her roles on CSI: Miami and ER.

Scandal airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.

WOW!!!! That's kind of huge in my book because I think she's a great actress. I can totally see her as Olivia's mom. Good casting choice. Apparently we'll see her in flashbacks this coming episode. I haven't been a big fan of the flashback episodes unless panties are being taken off in the oval office, but hopefully this will be a good one.

lol...she's not that old is she? I haven't seen her in anything to remember. Some people were hoping it would be Jasmine Guy since Joe Morton played her boyfriend on A Different World. I only really remember Alexander from a few movies I have seen, but she's got a good presence about her. I think she's a good choice.

I'm just hoping we get to the point where she reveals herself sooner rather than later. This Remington/B613 stuff is very old.

This episode was INTENSE! I thought there was something weird be between

but DAYUM. I certainly didn't think it was that! That is why I love this show. It will just pull a left turn in the middle of damn freeway it's so crazy.

Though, now I'm conflicted about how I feel. I enjoy disliking Mellie, so I don't know how to process this sympathy I am feeling. I am also rooting for Olitz and now I do kind think Fitz is a bit of jerk for cheating...but I want him to cheat. It's so damn confusing.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this episode. It was great, but after what happened last week it felt kind of out of place to me. I love me some Olitz like the next person,

but you have Mellie raped one week and then the next week her husband is sleeping with Liv again

. Shonda is known for being wild and crazy with this show, but the inclusion just felt kind of cheap this ime. There's normally more build up when get Olitz action. This just felt like sweeps material to keep fans happy...not that I'm complaining t:. TG and KW have some incredible chemistry.

Seriously, at this point, nothing would surprise me. After all, we now know that Fitz's first child is... not really his child.

Haha....I'm more interested in the second half the season. I never really liked this whole B613 plot. I think they got a good set up with the re-election campaign against Reston. Reston HATES Grant and he knows about Defiance, so it should be interesting. He'll definitely have his gloves off this time around.
