i recently read in a film mag that though the film is horrible the commentary on the dvd is pretty good and quite insightful to how WB killed the series

has anyone had the guts to watch it again:huh:

The commentary track is pretty informative, though it's kind of bland and boring at the same time. And to top it off, Joel gets sidetracked talking about a different movie altogether for a few minutes.

From time to time Joel is very literal on the commentary to...When the titles come up he actually says "These are the titles."

Full credit to Schumacher for doing it though (even though he was paid) - and doing it on his own, as well!

Agreed. I commend him for actually apologizing for the film...even though it's sort of a half-apology since he makes sure to direct it towards people who "loved Batman Forever" rather than "Batman fans" in general.

I just hate the fact how he repeats "But we were making a comic book!" and doesn't he leave before the movie finishes (as I'm sure many people do)

See, what I love most about Nolan is he's not trying to make a comicbook, or a 'comicbook movie'. He's not even adapting a comicbook. He's taken a story and characters, originally presented in comicbooks, and told the same story in a different medium.

That's what frustrates me about the Schumacher Batman films. He's shown in films like Falling Down and Phone Booth, for example, that he can build tension pretty well without going over-the-top. Looking at his track record you'd expect that he'd be able to make a good Batman film, especially considering he was a fan prior to signing on the dotted line. C'est la vie, I guess.

I couldn't have said it better, I'm of the same opinion.

Well to be fair, he was a fan of what his idea of Batman was; and that was Batman and Robin fighting side by side to stop a host of colorful costumed rogues from wreaking havoc in Gotham City.

It's a totally plausible and valid take on Batman...and bearing that interpretation in mind, Schumacher's films succeed. They're the most 'comic book' of the Batman movies IMO.

Again, matter of opinion...who's to say what makes a 'good' Batman film?

I don't see a 'good' or 'not good' ... they're all just 'different.'

I have watched the commentary and found it really interesting and actually does enhance the film slightly.
You get the negative sides of the project but it also stands to highlight the possitive sides of it as well.
I really have an appreciation for different aspects of the film now from the Cinematography, special effects, costume designs, vehicle construction, all of which I think are superb, just a shame they were wasted on such a poor presentation.
I was kind of let down by Schumacher apologising for the film as kids love the film, my cousin says its the best one, and I was at the right age when it came out to be in love with Batgirl and be scared of Mr Freeze.
Now I have grown up I am judging it for different reasons but for what it is it does the job for what it is.
I say watch the film if you are a Batfan, you will realise that the cast and crew had good intentions but were just misguided and is a good document to show how a studio can ruin a production.

Forever is so much better.

Though I can do without the shot of Val Kilmer's butt.
