Has anyone read anything about SciFi's new series 'Tin Man' that will be debuting in late 2007? It's a modern take on the Wizard of Oz story. A girl gets stranded in O.Z. (the 'outer-zone') and meets up with 3 others to find the Mystic Man and to defeat an evil witch/sorceress. I thought it sounded stupid at first, but now I'm pretty interested. I guess Alan Cumming has been cast as Glitch, the 'scarecrow' character.

I am kind of excited to see this too. I always thought Tim Burton should remake the movie.

Tim Burton would have been a great director to bring the true essence of the Wizard of Oz to film. It's really a dark and disturbing novel.
He can still do it. The Tin Man is a loose interpretation of the Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz is not a dark and disturbing novel. I have read it like five times.

You didn't get the meaning behind it then.
It's like Alice in Wonderland. It can be interpreted two ways.
One is as a kids story, another is as a comment on Society.

Don't tell me I didn't get the meaning behind it. I did. I just don't see why ever kid's book has to have a dark and disturbing understory. This one may have had a message, but if they ever remake it, it better not be dark and disturbing. It is a children's classic after all.

It needs to be remade.
I love the original film, but I want to see the real version.
Has anyone seen the Hildebrandt drawings of the Wizard of Oz?
That's the version I grew up with.

Sci_Fi is a great place to watch old school low budget B-Movies. They are fun chill out!

I think Burton would strike a balance between dark and disturbing, and lighthearted fairytale. As weird as his movies get, they're never so bad that kids shouldn't watch them.

Love the concept of a darker Wizard of Oz. That is not to say that it can not retain the child-classic aspect of it, or even the magic that made it as long lasting, but there is something dark and sinister about the concept. And a good director, script, producers, or whatever, can bring that out and make something really cool and special.

Plus, I dig this because I never really was into the musical part of the original.

And just because SciFi is doing this, does not mean it is going to suck. Recently they did do The Lost Room and that was a great mini.

the CONCEPT of this sci-fi special sounds pretty intriguing, but I'd have to side with Mr. Sparkle's point. Sci-fi's movies suck balls pretty bad! And I'm sorry but they are not fun; they are a waist of time.

Ever seen the Battlestar Galactica Mini? or the Farscape Mini?

^ Exceptions to the rule, as in any argument.

Therein lies the keys to the kingdom. WHO is actually putting this together? The crank team of cable network executive wannabe's who put together dribble movies? Or the sophisticated OUTSIDE writer/creators who can find the talented post staff for shows like BG, Farscape, The 4400, etc....
