Well the thing is realistically, and from what i've read about crucifixions, Mel's portrayal of the brutality of it and the flagellation was accurate. It's tough to look at and shocking, but it does bring it to a level we hadnt seen in a movie before. The movie was about the passion so it was limited to that but i agree, i think a life of Jesus movie with Mel and Caviezel would have been something i personally would have liked to see.
Yup. Several years before The Passion came out, I read an essay about crucifixions written by an MD, with Jesus' crucifixion being a focal point. It was a very vivid description about what happens to the body. You don't die from blood loss, but from suffocating. They talk about how you had to try and pull yourself up just to take a breath, and for those who suffered flagellation...all those exposed nerves and ripped flesh on your back being dragged across the bark and splinters of the cross made each attempt to breathe agony. You eventually just can't take that pain anymore and let yourself suffocate. I can't imagine, man. Terrible.
Thanks. Now for the rest of my life, I'm going to picture Jesus walking around in a Miami Heat jersey and sideways baller cap.
See, now that you mentioned "Miami", now I'm seeing Jesus dressed as Don Johnson from Miami Vice.
