The CNN article doesn’t say so - referring to a “previously unidentified gene.” Whereas, CIPA has been known about for years. It would have been good, though, if the article had at least mentioned CIPA and specified if the woman’s condition was similar or different.

You could accidentally poke out your eye without even realizing it... so it doesn't sound that great to me if you don't have invulnerability or regeneration healing coming with it
