Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzmann Have Ended Their Relationship

Yeah, I quite like the film, especially everything before the "KHAN!!!" moment. But then again I love the look, the cast and how "real" everything feels. So it has little to do with the script.

I think there is also something to be said about what a movie wants to do. It was a bad move to rehash Wrath of Khan because Wrath of Khan wasn't just an action movie. It was far more ambitious about how they approached the story, the arcs, and the plot itself. It tried to be a great Sci-Fi film, and not just a solid Trek film. I don't think the Abrams films really strive for anything outside being entertaining. In this regard, they succeed. Well, prior to like you said "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!"

The thing I like least about the whole Wrath of Khan rehash in Into Darkness is that it demonstrates a lack of confidence in their own original ideas, which in my opinion were pretty cool and could have stood alone without needing to lean so hard on a beloved, classic Star Trek story. I was really into the idea of this rogue Starfleet admiral being the antagonist, but then he ended up being kind of a small part of the movie because they just had to get their KHAAAAAN on.

I repeat of the bloody tale of revenge, that has no real place in a world where our heroes don't even know who Khan is.

Exactly! Wrath of Khan worked because of the history he had with the Enterprise crew. Not because Spock died. The fact they reused that same story element and flipped it just shows how much they didn't understand that key point of Wrath of Khan.

Completely agree. The entire concept of Wrath of Khan is the history, the existing relationship. It rings hollow without it. A not great pantomime.

Honestly, none of that bothered me. It's an action movie at the end of the day, and the plot was entertaining enough prior to them rehashing a much better movie.

The secret being that even the Non-Kahn related bits were many, many shades of the Undiscovered Country. Honestly, has Nicholas Meyer ever been asked about his thoughts? Because his coat tails are run ragged by this point.

didn't see what the point in khan putting his crew members in torpedoes and if marcus knew that khan's crew were inside the torpedoes, why not just get rid of them yourself instead of giving them to kirk and telling him to shoot them at khan while he was on a world that they wouldn't even be allowed in.

Yeah, the script requires you to turn off your brain in a manner unmatched by any other 2013 blockbuster with the possible exception of Pacific Rim.
