Bean and Bush in The Hitcher Remake
Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 1, 2006

Sean Bean and Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill) will star in The Hitcher, Rogue Pictures' remake of the 1986 horror film being produced by Platinum Dunes, says The Hollywood Reporter. Veteran music video helmer Dave Meyers directs.

The script follows a young couple driving across the country who become prey for a serial killer, who blames all of his murders on the young man.

Bean will carve out the serial killer role made famous by Rutger Hauer in the original. Bush has been cast as the young woman while casting is imminent on the young man.

Eric Bernt wrote the current draft. Producing are Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller as well as Charles Meeker and Alfred Haber. Production is scheduled to start this month in Austin and Santa Fe, N.M.

Wasn't there already a remake of this. I think it was called the hitcher 2.

Bean rules, and I love The Hitcher... one of those rare gems in low-budget slasher horror. I'm not sure if it should be remade though... just like The Omen, the original is a classic and there's no need to just rehash it to make more money.

The original was a classic. Rutger scared the hell out of me. :(

I ****ing hate remakes. They piss on the graves of the originals. But Sophia Bush is hot.

Well, with Bean... it could possibly be good. Hopefully he'll be as good as Rutger Hauer was.

Yeah, she's a goddess. Chad Michael Murray is a f**king idiot. How could you cheat on her?

I love the original. Like all remakes, I'm not too excited about this.

Rogue Pictures has supplied us with a couple images from THE HITCHER, the 1986 remake which was single handedly responsible for the demise of the prevalent mode of transportation for the free wheelin' hippie's of the 80's, hitchhiking.

THE HITCHER opens nationwide February 9, 2007

No one shall top Rutger Hauer as John Ryder. Not even Sean Bean. He doesn't even look menacing in those shots.

Sean Bean always plays a good villian. Before I pass judgement I'll have to see it. I love the original and I hope the remake doesnt spoil it.

agreed.

The original has moments that are hard to swallow (shooting down a police helicopter with a handgun while driving a speeding truck) but Hauer was so intense that he was able to sell it.

In that pic it looks like bean is hugging sophia and that his having a friendly discussion with the guy, of course that's in the context of one still shot. If someone could make justice to the role that's sean bean, however he doesn't look asw psychotic as rutger hauer did. and i agree it shoudnt be remade as it is a classic well made low budget horror/suspense ride of a film I remember the part where he kills jennifer jason leigh by pulling I think it was to trucks, anyway you didn't see it and thats the best part of it, he made this guy despicable as it should be. Lets see what sean brings to it.

See this is one notion, I've never quite understood with people. How does a remake ''spoil" the original? If anything the film tarnishes it's own image, not the original film. If a remake is bad, it just makes people see what they loved in the original film more.

This remake has potential, but I just don't see it coming anywhere close to the original in quality.

I really don't understand why they keep trying to do remakes, there are so many good books out there that would make great movies, why take a good movie and try to redo? Just to make a buck.

So Agent 006 is the hitcher? Awesome!

Maybe spoil was the wrong word. It just seems that when they do remakes it all about tossing as much blood and gore and sex at the screen as possible instead of trying to creep the audience out.
