search function?

so i haven't posted in a while but when
did the search function go kaput?

It seems like searching for anything by using
"search terms" is useless. Or at least, it's
useless if the post you're looking for is more
than a few months old.

It's hasn't ever worked well for as long as I've been on here.

Yeah, the search database went corrupt 4-5 months ago and couldn't be rescued so they scrapped it and just rebuilt it to work from that point going forward. So, in order to find old posts you have to do it by username and wade through their posting history.

Search isn't ruined, but it's just not been rescued, far as I can tell.

If the Search engine has gone corrupt, I can rebuild the Search Database.

Please note, with as many posts and threads we got, this will take a LONG time and may cause server outages because its to intensive.

Far as I can tell, according to a friend, we can do it two ways--Shut down the boards for a day and do it all at once, or do it in parts, which wouldn't require taking the boards down.

It would honestly depend on how big the parts are. It'd be more to back up, say, the SHH! Community forums that it would to back up the TMNT forums.

More like 12-20 hours.

Honestly...best would be for me to close the forums on a Friday night or something, and then reopen them when the Search Database build is complete. However long that takes.

I think that'd be the best way to approach it as well, Malice. Trying to do it with the boards online is really going to be a strain on the servers.
