Damn, Alfre Woodard is really killin' it.

Well, so long to Cottonmouth. Wasn't expecting him to go out so early. Especially after how much Coker hyped him up. I guess it was all just about building up Diamondback as the big bad all along?

That's what [blackout]I predicted a couple episodes back, but I wasn't expecting Mariah to be the one to take him out. That part surprised me.[/blackout]

Honestly, at one point, I thought the weird incest relationship was between Mariah and Cottonmouth. Before she killed him, I remember that one scene where they were getting a little too close to each other. C'mon no one else thought the same thing?

However, early in the first episode, it foreshadows that Mariah was being molested by their uncle. When Domingo talks about their uncle being a good guy, the camera takes a noticeable shot of Mariah's face. That was the tell about what happened between her and that guy.

You do kind of feel for Cottonmouth. He was no choir boy, but he was a product of his environment. He seemed like a good kid who was serious about his music and didn't want to inherit a criminal empire. He clearly had a talent for music, but he didn't have a family who wanted to nurture it.

Aw man, I'm sad
they got rid of Mahershala Ali so quickly.

Holy ****, what an episode. Damn.

Killing off Cottonmouth midway through the season was a definite shock. Especially with the episode ending with Luke Cage getting shot by the Judas. However, I'm not sure if that narratively was the best move.

I don't think anyone saw that coming. I figured if Cottonmouth were to die it wouldn't happen at the midway point. Good think they had Diamondback and Black Mariah were waiting off to the sides.

It's a pretty ballsy move for the show. To kill the character basically set up as the main villain midway through the FIRST SEASON.

Great episode with some great twists. Alfre's killing it as Mariah, Shades is making some moves and it's great to finally see [BLACKOUT]Diamondback[/BLACKOUT]!

I agree that it was ballsy to take out Cottonmouth out this early. He's probably the best actor on the show and the character with the most charisma.

I was expecting this but not til the last episode and not like this

Are they joking?!?

Cottenmouth gone too soon. What's worse is, his death wasn't gangsta nor heroes and villains type stuff. It was a sibling/domestic dispute!

I liked this episode but, in some ways, it was a bit pointless. Last episode seemed to resolve Cottonmouth's story, this one suggested it was still open only to resolve it at the end. Still, they've been teasing Diamondback, so it's good to see him enter the fray.

The flashbacks were the highlight. I like seeing Mamma Mable and how she crafted both Cornell and Mariah. It really makes Cornell far more sympathetic. Under different circumstances, he would have been quite different.

Four Stars.

:wow: Mariah! Was not expecting that. It was good to finally see Diamondback show up as I was thinking he better be worth the wait as they kept hyping him up.

This episode was filled with great interactions between characters. Luke and Cottonmouth "Harlem's Captain America", Luke and Claire, Shades and Mariah, etc.

Especially loved the scene between Shades and Mariah and the scene at Domingo's gym. The Daredevil references were on point as well.

Episode 8 tomorrow.

Kingpin and Cottonmouth have the same shady Lawyer

I'm surprised Zip is still around and mouthing off to Cage seeing as he has seen what he can do.

This was a strong exchange scenes episode. Misty and Cottonmouth. Cage and Cottonmouth. Shades and Mariah. Cottonmouth and Misty. Cage and Misty.

Cottonmouth and Mariah's story went very Shakespearean.

Misty is learning that there is a limit to the system's justice just like Matt learned in Daredevil season 2.

Shades doing his Littlefinger thing manipulating Mariah. I think Diamondback told Shades to line Mariah up as Cottonmouths replacement.

This show sure features a lot of former Wire actors.

Carl Lucas is a corny name.

They mention Cage dad so far but not his brother.

Hopefully the Incident tape selling kid could turn into this shows Daryl 'Troop' Andrews. Cage kid sidekick.

Domingo Colon s*** a brick when Cage pressed him

Great entrance for Diamondback.

Cottonmouth killed too soon. I thought they could have kept him around for possible next season.

The background story and ending had me like...

I wanted Claire to namedrop Nelson Mandela being sent to prison, what's with all the reference to examples of black patriotism, freedom, and hope.
Cottonmouth is probably the best actor on the show and the character with the most charisma.
I think that applies more to Shades.

WOW this had to have been the most BRUTAL of the series yet!!! lol

In no universe is the actor or the character shades better than Cottonmouth.

Watching the 7th episode right now and I'll hafta say that both Mariah and Shades are fluctuating for me. Sometimes they are very good specially Wodaard is excellent in some scenes but in other episodes/scenes, I find them average at best. While Cottonmouth is just amazing. Mahershala Ali is great in the role.

Shades was IMHO the weakest character this season. Rossi not a bad actor, but I was just never blown away by his work.

The flashbacks were really great.
