Daredevil Season 2, Episode 1 "Bang" (USE SPOILER TAGS!)

Good first episode.
I like how they tease the Punisher with everyone thinking he was an army.
Nice reference with the biker gang, they already were in Agent of Shield:

Is it just me are does it feel like all the cop and criminals in this season feel like they came down with a case of the stupids. People are shooting at each other but they stand up or run directly into the line of fire and don't react with any sense of self preservation. The Cops are chasing criminals on foot while being directly behind there line of fire with bullets whizzing by but they just keep chasing . The Mobsters stood directly up to fire out of a window that was receiving and hail of incoming bullets . It feels like all of the little things that Steven D. Knight did to make the action feel intense and acrobatic are gone. That fight between the Punisher and Daredevil felt like a standerd fight in any tv show. In Season one he felt like a stealthy Ninja and in Season two at least on episode one he feels like just a guy walking around in a costume punching stuff.

Plus the new suit feels like eye sore on screen.

^^ So negative. I didnt feel that way at all.

That was an awesome opening episode. It was just as good as last season to me. Daredevil is now known to the criminals and the dynamic has changed a bit so that The Punisher is the really dangerous vigilante in HK. DD is still badass, but a bit closer to an Avenger than before.

New suit: Its not the new suit yet, its still the one he had in S1

Shootouts: Theyre not precise and perfectly staged. Theyre wild n' messy and dumb criminals/mobsters are dumb. Theyre not Navy SEALS, thats the point.

The HAND will be another story.

Nice nod to Garth Ennis's "Kitchen Irish" Punisher MAX arc with the lead Irish mobster being called Nesbitt. Great opening episode all round. Pleasantly surprised with the level of gore shown during the Punisher's shoot-out, not OTT but not holding back too much either.

Loved the opening fight sequence and not showing DD's suit right away. Loved the scene between Matt and Foggy and
Welcome back Frank! I'm sure that guy saying "War Zone" was no coincidence. :cwink:

I thought the writing, especially some of the criminal's dialogue, was a bit clunky (especially that Irish meeting, yikes). It feels like it misses some of the elegance of the underworld interactions in the first season, whether that's because of DeKnight and his team or a product of the people we are dealing with. This episode is a bit strange since the entire throughline is about the mystery of what new paramilitary power is responsible for these murders, when we all know it's The Punisher, so it's all about waiting until he shows up.

But once he does, man does the episode pick up. The hospital chase is terrific, and the ending is incredible. Definitely did not expect Frank Castle to shoot Daredevil in the head in the first episode. Onto the next one!

Stretching this connection a bit....but....

At the beginning of the episode, Foggy is telling Matt about Bethany, the waitress/Barista he had a one night stand with.
It's possible, at least, that this is Beth, the blonde waitress from The Avengers, who was saved by Cap and had most of her scenes cut from the movie.

I mean, it IS stretching, but...I like that idea.

Great episode back. Frank does not give a ****

Well, it didn't take long for Frank to make an impression. Holy ****.

Frank is a total bad ass... great way to introduce the character.

Ya know another thing i was thinking was, if youre showing a quick montage of how DD and Pun operate you dont need to set the police or goony criminal characters up to be super smart and clever. Theyre just an example of what these vigilantes do to bad guys. And not every criminal in NYC is some highly skilled assassin. Think about DD and Pun taking on a real life mob or punks robbing a store. Those guys would be total idiots and very much like how they were depicted in Ep 1.

so that whole argument doesnt hold up and as far as his costume: Oh well.

Heh, I don't watch Shield so I had no clue. Nice little "shared universe" nod.

I like seeing Turk get his ass beat.
I hope Luke Cage gives him a beating when he pops up in his show as well

I wonder if Ennis named him after Norther Irish actor James Nesbitt?

Great introduction to The Punisher
One man army and bogey man to the criminal underworld

Damn good episode, Loved the introduction to Punisher in the MCU!

Hooray for season two. As per tradition, I have poured myself a red drink named after the place where Hell's Kitchen is located. So, with Manhattan in hand, I'm starting the season. As with last year, comments to be written after the episode unless I'm too drunk to do so.

I like where this episode starts. It's Daredevil up and fighting, it's Matt and Foggy still buddies, and it's Nelson and Murdock bumping but still broke. I've known a few attorneys who accept payment in kind so getting pies and fruit is kinda cool. It fits that they're the people's champs but that doesn't pay. On the other hand, maybe they shouldn't be discussing cases in the lobby like that for all to hear.

The organized crime stuff is pretty cool and, like last year, I'm amazed at all the things they fit into a single episode. I love seeing Turk again (my notes just say "Turk!"). Finally, the Punisher is great so far in one episode. He's menacing and threatening. It's mostly off screen, but you know he's a force to be reckoned with. And having DD lose at the end helped solidify that. Great start.

Four and a Half Stars.

Just finished the first ep, and man they wasted no time getting down to business!

Just finished this episode.

As a lover of S1 and anticipating S2 I'm surprised to say I've had very mixed feelings to the opener. Some of the dialogue and writing was flat out awful, the black no-nonsense chief "bodyvest thicker than my dick" really?. The part where Matt heard the two doctors say "this is worse than what happened to the dogs of hell" was so on the nose.

Someone else also mentioned the fight scenes, they definitely felt Arrow than S1 of Daredevil. The camera work and lighting last season made it feel like its budget was 10x what it was. This ep IMO you could feel the budget.

There was a lot to like too but there were definitely more negatives that popped out than usual compared to any ep of S1. I've seen the future eps so far have very good reviews so fingers crossed.

I just got done with the first episode, and wow. Great stuff. They're not messing around, they just went straight into it. Loved it!

Yeah, no talking or anything like that. Straight into fighting.

A solid beginning. We see the reverberation of Matt's actions in taking down Fisk last season. Nelson and Murdock are still skating on the edge of solvency we see. The action was par for the course for the show, but what sticks out is the way they built up Frank without showing us all that much of him. Thus when the conflict started we had gotten to know just how relentless he could be. That ending was tension filled as hell with quite the surprise finale.

I will say again, solid but not particularly stellar either. It felt like set up. Well done set up but not overly amazing in execution. Just well done.

The fight scenes are not as good as S1, atleast in the first episode, probably because of the clunky suit, also the initial chase and the underworld guy's dialogue was cliche laden.

Otherwise pretty good episode and a solid opening

Was anyone else like, "Ahh, that's cute. Another world weary old black guy for them to kill off."

I'm sure they won't. They must be aware of the critical response to that happening in the first season of both Netflix properties. They even have Brett reference Clemons from JJ at one point so I'm sure they're aware of it. It was just my first reaction.

The Irish Mob scene was in the unfortunate position of being catch up exposition and an obvious dead end plot thread. The minute they're introduced you know these guys are in for it - even super villains have the basic human decency not to abuse puppies - and so everything they say becomes superfluous. You know from the tension built into the scene that a hero is about to break in and wreck these guys (the true suspense is will it be our hero or another, rougher vigilante?) but they still decided to play up the whole scene as if these were plot important characters. So we have to sit through the whole spiel about them taking back power and who did what and the whole time we're just like, "oh my god just get on with the beating already!"

I've only watched episode 1 so far and am not binge watching. This show was a welcome return. I much prefer it to Jessica Jones. It doesn't feel like nearly a whole year ago though that Season 1 was on.
