I know there is no sequel to the graphic novel, and that there probably will never be a sequel (There isn't really a need for one). But that doesn't mean there isn't historical material that can be used to make a conclusion to the Second Persian War.
The Battle of Salamis could be used to end what Leonidas "began".
If you don't know what it is, go here> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Salamis

The film would deal with the Athenian Navy, and the Greek "Traitor", who tricks Xerxes into attacking at the Bay of Salamis, and dooming his conquest of the world.
It's said to be the most significant battle in human history.

The only way this would happen is if Frank Miller were to write a new graphic novel or script, and if Snyder were to return as director.

Straight to video sequel man 300 II: Persian Boogaloo.

The problem with a sequel is, I don't thinnk it would live up to 300.Mostly the movie will be produce by another director. I don't think xerxes would look the same. and by that a lot of people would be disappointed. I say we remember the 300, and call it a day.

Why wouldn't Xerxes look the same:huh::huh:
Miller should write it, he's the only that should be allowed to. and Snyder should return as director.

Because 300 isn't a franchise like spiderman or x-men. I really don't know how that would work though, to make a sequel to a movie like 300.

Significance

The battle of Salamis has been described by many historians (among them Victor Davis Hanson, Donald Kagan and John Keegan) as the single most significant battle in human history. The Greek victory protected the nascent and singular traditions of democracy and individual rights, as well as guarding Greek philosophy and culture. This meant the eventual flowering of Western culture, which would have been snuffed out completely, had the Persians overrun Greece. Due to the enormous and wide-ranging influence of Western culture on all of human civilization, as well as the huge success of Western culture in its own right, some claim that the world today would be fundamentally different had the Greeks lost at Salamis.

Interesting how this battle isn't that well known. I happened to be flipping through the channels late last night and that countdown show on E! said a sequel is in the works.

Frank Miller needs to be involved but he's got Sin City 2, The Spirit and his comics so it could be a year before a script is even written or if he decides to write/draw a mini-series first.

Zack Snyder has Watchmen and then Sucker Punch so maybe it could be ready for filming in 2009 for 2010 release.

Who knows what they could come up with but The Battle of Salamis should be a story that is told but given the 300-twist to make it unique.

I heard that miller was playing with the idea of doing another graphic novel where the spartans are portrayed as bad guys.

It wouldn't really be a sequel.
It would be a follow up, no...conclusion. None of the characters, except for Dilios, would return. It would have an all new cast of characters, who would be Athenians.

:wow: WB don't rush. Let Miller write/draw a mini-series first and Zack Snyder direct. Don't even think to do otherwise.

It wouldn't just involve Salamis, but it would also involve the Persian capital of Babylon. I would love to see Frank Millers version of Babylon.

The boy-lovers?! We want Spartans!

NO SEQUEL. That would be like making a sequel to E.T., there's no reason for it. And if Miller writes a comic book based on material that he wants to be used specifically a sequel, it's gonna seem forced as hell.

I was gonna say something like that.
I wanna see what those philosophers and boy-lovers are made of.
Athens had a weak army, but it's Navy was one of the best during it's time.

Miller wrote a new story for the Sin City sequel.

WB is probably going to go ahead with a $equel. Its like The Matrix all over again. Now they can bring in new talent to try their hands at it and copy what was created or wait for Miller and Snyder to craft another story.

What would you rather have?
I'm sure they can come up with another good action ride that tells the battle that lead to the most significant event in the history of mankind.

I don't think I'd have a problem with it if it was the same creative team. That battle alone would make for an interesting movie. Though not having Gerald Butler in it would kind of suck.

WAIT WAIT WAIT! I can see 300, 300 times until they make it. LOL

You wouldn't do a sequel, you'd do a prequel...Marathon with his father Darius, who first invaded Greece...but, it was Athens in that Battle, not Sparta, and THEY certianly didn't have a militaristic society like the Spartans,...so there would be a serious lack of mystique.

Themistocles will be this films Leonidas, except he lives in the end. He's later exiled for taking bribes, and Artaxerxes, Xerxes' heir, offers him asylum.
He's also got a "rival", Aristides, who was one of the 10 commanders of the Athenian Navy

This isn't a franchise. It's a stand-alone film. Some things are better left alone. Why do people feel anything remotely good must have a sequel these days?

I'd prefer they adapt other work of Miller's.

socko good point, we would just be setting ourselves up for a disappointment.Lets leave it be.

Sin City II is being filmed this year (and a second sequel with new and old material seems very likely).

Ronin is being made into a film.

They could re-launch the RoboCop series with Frank behind the camera. Other than that I don't know what other work of Miller they could use. Fox shat on Daredevil and Elektra.

Maybe a Dark Knight Returns film in about 20 years.

Audiences loved the movie, WB loves making money, Zack loves telling a good story so its hard to stop.

They could have a time traveler travel back in time and stop the hunchback from betraying the Spartans. Then they could show how the battle ended differently, with more waves of Persians getting whacked, and possibly Leonidas hitting Xerxes right through the throat with that spear, instead of just ripping off some of his jewelry.
