In his battle against leukemia, five-year-old Miles finds inspiration in the strength of superheroes -- Batman, in particular. Next month, all of San Francisco is getting in on a stunt that enlists Miles’ help to save the city.

On November 15, the Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation is turning San Francisco into Gotham City, and when trouble strikes that morning, the city’s police chief will call upon Miles -- aka Batkid -- to leap into action for a day of noble crime-fighting around town.

His first act of duty will be rescuing a damsel in distress from the cable car tracks in Nob Hill, followed by arresting the Puzzler for robbing a downtown vault. Miles will then refuel at Burger Bar directly above Union Square, but mid-lunch, he’ll get a call from the police chief directing him to look out the window. He’ll see a group of volunteers crying out for his help to save San Francisco Giants mascot, Lou Seal, who’s been kidnapped by Mr. Penguin in a convertible getaway car.

In a wild chase, Miles will free Lou Seal at AT&T Park and head to City Hall, where Mayor Ed Lee will thank him for his heroism and hand him the key to the city. Hundreds of adoring San Franciscans will be there to cheer -- and most likely hold back tears.

Fans of Batman and all things utterly heartwarming are encouraged to watch and thank Batboy in action, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation has listed the times and locations at which Miles can be spotted in his acts of fearlessness.

You have to love the folks at Make-A-Wish! And a huge kudos to everyone who works with the to make the wishes come true.

I always like seeing something like this.

Beautiful story. He's sure to love it.

Does this mean I can join the league of shadows?

This is honestly one of the most amazing things I've ever read. The fact the entire community would go this far to make one little kids dream truly shows how wonderful people truly are.

+1 for humanity

Thats awesome. I would be a mook that kid could beat up

I'd volunteer to be the street samurai from the 1989 Batman who waves his swords around and Batman takes out with one punch.

I tried to get my sister to take a sick day so she could volunteer, haha. No dice! :cmad: But 11,000 other people volunteered, so there are plenty of helpers!

YAY BATKID! :awesome:

This is simply amazing. Go get em' Batkid!

Dayum, the kid didn't go for a fun blue and gray Batman, did he? He looks ready to torture a suspect or two in that getup.

this is really great, my friend's around there right now and he's live updating me with photos of penguin via chat while i'm at work. haha

So lame that they did this on a work day and not the weekend. I would be there right now.

serious, i would bart out there and cheer on batkid!
but i'm stuck in my cube at work, and watching it through nbcbayarea.com.
