^Those are not Roger Hartgreaves original illustrations for the characters. Those are the modernised crappier versions.
The original books are fantastic kid's books, I grew up reading those, and the original tv adaptations from the 1970s are also brilliant. It's the later books and cartoons that are awful, commercialised versions, and lack the charm of the originals.
edit: Let's hope any movie version has that that original charm of RH's books.

edit: I was given one for my Christmas in about 2000/2001, 'Mr Impossible', it is actually a very good read even today as an adult, the Wachowski's should adapt that one imo. Am I joking?

Urgh, they're gonna make it one of those silly "Madagascar"/"Horton Hears a Who" type films with pop music and someone yelling about their "BIG BUTT!!" aren't they.

I wonder how long it will take for either Steve Carrel or Jack Black to be cast in this.
 
Hopefully not long. I think both do good voice work for kids films.
