I never really knew anything about Captian Marvel other than his powers were magical in origin, and he was a boy, Billy Batson.

From reading Justice and the files from the Bat-computer in the back of the books, I learned a whole bunch about him, well the basics anyway, and I gotta' say, I think he's pretty cool.

He should have an ongoing series. I know he has a mini out right now, which I'd like to check out.

His arch nemesis Black Adam is really cool too. I was curious about all of this and these characters. Now I know Black Adam was chosen by the same Wizard who chose Billy to have the powers of the Gods, but he was the first chosen but it corrupted him and he turned evil, power corrupts and all that. He has a great look too, kinda' like a dark elf, or Spock. :yay:

And that the Wizard probably chose a boy next to have the powers so that he wouldn't turn evil like Adam.

I also like how he uses various powers from different Gods like the Speed of Mercury and so on.

When did he first appear? I know he's an older character.

I also heard of the law suit with Marvel comics to use the name Captian Marvel.

Definitely, Marvel is a greatly underrated and underappreciated character. He's become DC's premier underdog, in my opinion.

His first appearance was in Whiz Comics #2, two years after Superman, in 1940.

Saying Black Adam is evil is over simplifying. He's just pissed. Very pissed. There are a lot of good JSA trades to pick up and 52 will tell you a lot about Black Adam. Also, looks on youtube for "JLU Clash" and its a great captain marvel episode

I like to think of Black Adam as the equivalent of Namor in the DC Universe. Psyche-wise, anyway.

He's more like the equivalent of Magneto. As far as I know, Namor has never resorted to outright genocide.

No, but you can bet he thinks about it eight hours out of every day, haha.

I hope more people take notice. I love the way Ross handles Cap. You can see the love and respect he has for him. He really does him "Justice" (I had to say it)!
I think Cap and Black Adam are two of comics greatest. I love the way Adam's character has been fleshed out in JSA and 52. I also feel that he has much in common with Namor and Magneto (apt comparisson). I'm a bit sceptical about Cap's direction in Trials of Shazam, but I'm keeping an open mind.

Thanks for the info on when he debuted. Yeah I think Ross does a nice job with him aswell.

Newsarama's got an interview with Mike Kunkel about his Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam series. I loved his Herobear and the Kid work, and this looks to be just as good.

I like Black Adam without the pointy ears, as can be seen in the current Black Adam mini...

Did Jeff Smith ever finish Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil? I only got the first issue of it, but I kinda dug it.

All 4 issues came out a long time ago. The trade is out soon.

Yeah, it's not like Trials of Shazam. The book started at week 16 or so of 52, and it still has 4 more issues.

Awesome.

I have all the Trials issues, it has its good points and bad... beyond the eons it has taken to get 8 or 9 issues.

I heard a chidren's Shazam series is coming out. I think I'll pick it up for my son.
