Title kind of says it all.

The comics had some examples of Krypton and Earth communicating prior to Superman's arrival. And so does Smallville from what I understand.

Technically No..

If the Fortress is to contain so much knowledge of earth & its inhabitants etc at some point a Kryptonian would have had to visit earth in some capacity to gain such knowledge.

He should be the only known (to the world) Kryptonian that has been on earth, however Superman would be aware that there have been other Kryptonian's who have visited earth at some point.. somewhat similar to the way Smallville has portrayed it only with less of them having made the trip. Jor-El being on earth as a youngster as a punishment was a great idea especally with him running into grandpa Kent etc. Made so much sense that he then sent Kal-El to that particular part of earth knowing how kind the Kent's where in welcoming outsiders

At least I think thats a cool enough explanation..

I suppose that Krypton did not have to know as much about earth as they did in the first Donner film.

It could be that Krypton knew of Earth due to information we have sent into space over the years.

We have no idea how far reaching out information could be.
Wasn’t there even a capsule we sent into space containing a vast amount of information about Earth?

Maybe Krypton has further reaching detection abilities than our own, and picked up a lot of earth’s signals.

Then there is the possibility that they may have sent spybots in the past, small machines to collect and gather information about millions of worlds, light years away, and send the information back.

I prefer that Kal is the first on in modern history to get to earth.

If it were revealed that some ancient pagan gods were also kyrtonians or their similar relatives on earth in the ancient past, would not be a shock either.

We send probes out into space looking for life, who is to say they didnt sometime in the past as well.

Kryptonians should have explored Earth before Superman's arrival, in secret of course. Jor-El definitely should have been on Earth at some point, heading up a research team.

In my fanfic, Jor-El and his Kryptonian research team operate from a Kryptonian base in the Artic that is undetectable by human technology. This base will become the Fortress of Solitude, in an underground Hoth-esque way.

interesting idea notfadeaway. I too do like that aspect smallville did saying kryptonians did come to earth here and there over our course of human history. They could probably say they did it to study how cultures change and grow or something. Then also some genetic deal with the whole why kryptonians get powers on yellow sun worlds and all that.

Though like others have said i would want kalel to be the only modern day kryptonian on earth. Though i do want to leave it open for kara/zod-minions to be on earth too in some way or manner. Then also doomsday could have been an expirment kryptonians did on earth but they locked it away when they found it to be to out of hand.

IMO Superman should be the first and only Kryptonian to have come to Earth.

Yes!
A Kryptonian society capable of casual interstellar travel opens a whole can o worms. Among the problems one would need to explain is the knowledge of the powers granted them under a yellow sun.

That's why I like John Bryne's Krypton so much.

superman should most definitely be the first (and possibly only) kryptonian on earth. im very surprised to see people would consider otherwise.

ok so then kalel, then maybe a kara down the road, and maybe if any phantom zone guys also down the road.

Were it my call, Kal-El would be the first and only Kryptonian (in this particular universe, anyway - in a parallel universe it'd be Zod) to set foot on Earth - but, of course, there would have been space exploration missions (prior to Jax-Ur's uprising) and probe droids and stuff like that in Krypton's past that would have accounted for their knowledge of Earth.

I do think Doomsday should already be on Earth when Kal gets there, but then Doomsday would be a genetic construct based on various predatory Kryptonian lifeforms, and not an actual Kryptonian.

First? He should be the only Kryptonian to have ever come to Earth, at least until the Supergirl movie.

I think both ways could work.

Shocking, I know.

Nope. I like for Kryptonians to have discover Earth before Supes land in it. Maybe like thousands or millions of years ago, have Kryptonians discover Earth with how advanced they are. Kinda like those urban legends that some believed the anicent Egyptians have met aliens around the time the pyramids, Sphinx, etc. were being worked on.

Something like that could work, if they were to do something like that.

I would love to have Kryptonians visit earth before Kal-El. I would do it in a way that it seems much of our mythology and legend would be tied back to Krypton in some way. Why not have Hercules, Atlas, Samson and any other number of historic heroes be Kryptonian? Why not have some of their science and architecture seep it's way into human society? Pyramids could be referenced.

The whole "aliens came to Earth a long time ago" is so damn cliche now, though. TRANSFORMERS cornered the market on that, as have a number of other films.

That's part of the reason why I'd go with Kryptonians being aware of Earth and its development through deep-space exploratory probes - it's too easy to fall into that trap nowadays. I think Kryptonian space exploration should have its own Prime Directive of sorts.

I think some ancient earth heroes could be revealed to be Kryptonian, but if this Superman does not exist in a vacuum and other DC elements do still exist, then those specific heroes were not Kryptonian. In the DC universe the Greek gods for example are completely different origin than Kryptonians, and have an intergral role in WonderWoman stories.

I do however think it would be cool to find out some Kryptonians were here in the past as ancient heroes, or despots for that matter.

Another element could be added that some of these are still alive and have simply left the earth for other yellow sun worlds.

Then it would be revealed that they do not age past a certain point under a yellow sun. This varies from writer to writer (not much in DC is consistent) but I like the stories where it shows that Kryptonians under a yellow sun stop aging around what looks like about 40 for a human.

So Superman would end up looking like he dies in Kingdom Come, wiser and more mature, but still physically imposing and not "old", and would not look weaker than he looked at 30, he may even look a little stronger, slightly bigger muscles etc...

Once he looks like he is 40 in the face, maybe his hair would continue to lighten slowly until it is all white, but other than that and just a few lines on his face, and he would still look very strong and healthy.

Since they may not show Superman like that in the movie, maybe they would show another mature Kryptonian from earth’s ancient past, come to visit the descendants of his/her friends, and when this other Kryptonian meets Kal, he also explains that while under a yellow sun, Kal too will never age past a certain point, and is thus immortal (as in does not grow old).

I dig this as a 'prequel' kinda concept. A young Jor-el visiting earlier, befriending a young Jonathon Kent (I'm not a massive Smallville mark....but they have probably done something similar?)

Maybe even sending Zod with him as a bodygaurd type?

I know it wouldn't make sense in the Donnerverse (Zod seemed to be a newbie to Planet Houston...)

Maybe something happens on Earth to start Zods decline/turn?

Also to borrow a concept from S3, as Zod turns more evil his white Krypton outfit slowly starts turning darker and darker....eventually to the black outfit...kinda like Supes outfit getting darker in 3. (obvioulsy they woudn't get around on Earth in these get ups...)

either way could work really...but i like the idea that jor-el was intending on sending supes elsewhere until durrin one of the quakes a peice of metal or somthin falls and hits the cordiances sendin the rocket out to jus random space and jor-el cant do anything to change it resulting in the Els never knowing where supes will end up or if he will even reach a planet at all...to me it adds to the tragety, and could also help in the story for supes to find out where hes from.

I was thinking along similar lines when I wrote a small draft for a Superman movie, I had Jor-El telling Lara that Kal's chances were 1 in 1,000 that he would make it to Earth, but that those odds were better than zero.

Making it more dramatic in that there was not sureness or gaurantee that he would even get here.

In all honesty, I don't see that it makes any difference.

As long as the survivors of Krypton are kept to a bare minimum; and I'm talking Kal-El, Kara, and Brainiac. Maybe a couple of criminals that had been trapped to the Phantom Zone and broke out, hypothetically speaking (since I don't exactly want a rehash of Superman II).
