Showtime to Premiere James Comey Miniseries in November – Variety

Showtime has announced that its miniseries on James Comey will air over two nights in late November.

The network has also released a first look at Jeff Daniels in character as the former FBI Director, and Brendan Gleeson in full Donald Trump mode.

Now titled “The Comey Rule” and based on Comey’s bestselling book “A Higher Loyalty,” the two-part, four-hour event series will take viewers on an insider’s journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply old norms to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia’s deep and unprecedented penetration into American politics, with our nation’s rule of law hanging in the balance.

Part one of the series examines the earliest days of the Russia investigation, the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and their impact on Election Night 2016, when Donald Trump stunned the world and was elected president. Part two is a virtual day-by-day account of the tempestuous relationship between Comey and Trump and the intense and chaotic first months of the Trump presidency.

In addition to Daniels and Gleeson, the miniseries also stars Holly Hunter as former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, Michael Kelly as former FBI Director Andrew McCabe, Jennifer Ehle as Patrice Comey, Scoot McNairy as former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Jonathan Banks as former National Intelligence Director James Clapper, Oona Chaplin as former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Amy Seimetz as former FBI lawyer Trisha Anderson, Steven Pasquale as former FBI agent Peter Strzok, Peter Coyote as Robert Mueller and Kingsley Ben-Adir as President Barack Obama.

The series was adapted for the screen and directed Billy Ray, with Shane Salerno, Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin on board as executive producers. It was produced by Secret Hideout, The Story Factory and Home Run Productions in association with CBS TV Studios.

This was my first time hearing about the mini series, and it’s interesting it’s going to coincide with the elections.

Pretty great cast they’ve got lined up and looking forward to seeing Gleeson as Trump!

Gleeson’s trying, but I’m already getting the sense that he needs to dumb it down about a thousand percent.

He also sounds like he’s really going for an emulation of Baldwin’s Trump, only more subdued!

Looks pretty good overall but Jeff Daniels doesn't look like Comey at all. Guess that's not really that big a deal but given how public of a figure Comey has become it's kind of glaring. Gleeson looks a good but like Trump though and Hunter is the spitting image of Sally Yates (who is the true hero of all of this, BTW and this movie would probably be better if it focused on her). Also Kingsley Ben-Adir looks about 20-30 years too young to play Obama.

Haha, yeah I forgot to mention that. Love seeing Mike in anything and this should be a good role for him. Also, Michael Kelly looks good as McCabe.

Just looked up the full cast list, and the one I’m most interested in seeing Joe Lo Truglio as Jeff Sessions.

I feel bad for Gleeson having to dress up like that. :funny:

Brendan Gleeson has sort of a hard, and weird job in this. He's making a valiant effort to not give a cartoonish performance while playing a real-life cartoonish-acting person, but it makes him come across as too lucid and calculating.

To be blunt, Gleeson just isn't dumb enough.

I thought Gleeson and Daniels were equally great in this, but Gleeson's Trump was easily my favorite part of this miniseries. Everytime he was on screen he had me glued and the stuff he was doing with his mouth and the teeth sucking just had me dying lol. His portrayal wasn't subtle at all and maybe even a bit much at times, but it helped me enjoy this show so much more than I would have otherwise, because I don't think this needed to be almost four hours long.
