I have seen a few negatives about the game that I can sort of see, even if they don't ruin anything for me. A good example I heard was that once you encounter the nurses in the hospital, there's really no escalation of enemies from that point and that's only about halfway into the game. Unlike a Resident Evil for example where usually every section has a new enemy stronger than the last section. I guess with a remake they're probably tied a bit to the original so I can't argue too much about that since I haven't played the original. But I do think the spider-mannequins in the prison could have been given a different 'look', that would have made them feel like a different enemy than just the same one with a new ability. I also think the labyrinth or the hotel could have used something new in that aspect.
But for me it's more of a minor nitpick than anything I feel strongly about. I would put this on par with RE2R and RE4R as a 10/10 game. There's things I think the RE games do better and there's things I think SH2R does better. For me the story in this game was really good and once you find out what happened with James and his wife, it's really emotionally resonant in a way that the RE games aren't. But the RE games also don't really go for the emotional story, they're about other things and I think for example the variety in weapons and how different a playthrough can be helps make RE more "re-playable". I do think it's funny both with SH2R and the RE games that for the most part our protagonist has no reactions to the crazy thing happening. I love James in this and I love Leon in RE but sometimes it makes you chuckle that they defeat some crazy ass monster and move onto the next room like it was nothing out of the ordinary.
