Directed by: John Carney

Recognizable Cast: Jack Reynor, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy. The film is mostly comprised of newcomers with breakthrough performances.

Synopsis: In 1985, a Dublin teenager (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) forms a rock 'n' roll band to win the heart of an aspiring model (Lucy Boynton).

Critic Reception: 96% all, 93% top critics

This is my favorite film in two years since 'Boyhood.' I've seen it twice and really want to go again, it's going to be hard to wait for it to be released on home video that's how amazing it is. I'll admit a large part of finally starting up a membership was to just add this thread, I've been coming to this site for a while without a membership and found it odd that no one was talking about it yet. It's the perfect combination of great characters, nostalgia, and phenomenal music. It has a lot of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the 80s and for those who love the arts. As a 90s kid, I connected to it on a really personal level because I similarly grew up making home movies with my friends and stood out in a catholic high school for my passion in the arts. Both times I went the audience has loved it and has had a huge reaction to it. I'm really hoping it spreads wider than it is because I see it as an immediate classic coming-of-age film from the last couple of years. The critics love this film and, from my theater experiences, the audience is digging it as well. The director's last films earned academy award recognition for their original songs and 'Sing Street' will most likely go the same.

I've just checked the theaters in my hometown to see that 'Sing Street' has expanded out of the cities to a wider release. This is still the best movie I've seen all year and favorite movie since 'Boyhood' (2014). It's just an overall fantastic feel-good film that feels like an instant classic.

Can't wait, I'll be looking out for this.

I think I will avoid watching any trailers as this sounds pretty damn good and just go in fresh.

It's really good. I didn't live through the 80s, but the reaction I had to it and from those around me when I go - it feels like what reactions must have been like for the original Footloose, Grease, and Dirty Dancing. Just an instant coming-of-age/music classic.

I saw this yesterday, and loved it. I had no idea what to expect from it. So good!

Arrives on blu-ray July 26th!

Awesome, I can't wait for the Blu-Ray because I loved this movie and its soundtrack. It's in my top five favorite films and I consider it the best movie that I've seen since I watched There Will Be Blood in 2007.

Well I got to watch this last night and loved it. I went in knowing nothing other than what I read in this thread. All the actors and characters were great and it was a real heart warming story. I really loved the relationship between the lead and his brother. Getting fuzzy feelings just thinking about it.

If I had to find something I didn't like about the movie I would have to say its the music that the band created. I found it to sound a bit modern and almost too good for a bunch of teens. I was really hoping they were going to end up as a punk band but thats obviously not what they were going for.

9.5 out of 10 but really a 10 out of 10 :D

See this movie.

Blu ray hits stores tomorrow. Think available to view digitally to starting tomorrow, but might be already available digitally..
