Snakes on a Plane

Bomb? Its actually doing very well. By next weekend it should be profitable. Hardly a bomb.

This is the type of movie that would normally pull in 3 or 4 million opening weekend. Instead it raked in 15 million. I wouldn't call that a bomb.

Secondly, you're acting like a jerk VileOne. Take it down a notch.
Sorry, Matt, 3 or 4 m would have been simply a flat out bomb for a movie with this hype, this budget and starring Sam Jackson. It will be profitable, but given expectations by everyone, fans, industry and studio, there´s no denying it´s disappointing.

Hope it shows how it feels when you try to put a positive spin on a movie you like and others call it a bomb...;) :D

This film is officially a bomb for all the hype it had, hilarious...............

Not really. It is already profitable if you factor in the world wide grosses. It took Superman longer to reach that point.

A movie that is profitable can't have bombed. It could be a dissapointment, not a bomb.

Where was this hype ? it was a cult net phenomenon, the film has done better with it's budget to profit ratio than SR and MI-3 do ppl really think the studio were expecting a novelty movie to make anymore than it has.
it's opening was good for an R-rated B -movie that was made on the cheap.
they expected cult hit and that's what they got and turned a profit in the process

Yes, it will be profitable, but it's not YET - it's done a whopping $28.9m worldwide on a production budget of $33m. It was also expected to debut at #1 with higher numbers and beating out a comedy that was on it's 3rd weekend........

Can't compare the two, sorry. SR has a ridiculous budget, which happens about 5% of the time today. I like how everybody has to refer to one of the highest budgeted films in the history of Hollywood to get a point across now.....

Snakes and Superman Returns are not bombs, both will end up deffinetly making money (considering all the merch and dvd sales). However there deffinetly disappointing to the studios.

It did take the number one spot its first weekend.

Just got back from my second viewing. My buddy thought it was hella funny :D
Some guy left and never came back and another was asleep in his chair. Two women with a ton of food began walking to the exit during Sam on phone about scenarios ,they stood at the door and I'm not sure if they left 'cause I wanted to watch the movie :p.

It was a bigger audience, but not by much :(

Looking at the hype machine movie that raises the costs well above $50 million. Not all of that goes back to the studios. Plus distribution fees that puts it over even more.

This is the type of movie that would normally pull in 3 or 4 million opening weekend. Instead it raked in 15 million. I wouldn't call that a bomb.

It didn't rake in $15 million. It took in $13.8 million and dropped 55% in it's second weekend. What happened to people saying the attendances would just get bigger and bigger and word of mouth would be great?

Secondly, you're acting like a jerk VileOne. Take it down a notch.

The people acting like jerks are the ones acting like this movie is God's gift to cinema. The ones that are jerks are saying that movie audiences don't want fun movies (like Snakes On A Plane) just mindless action. Mindless describes a piece of crap like Snakes On A Plane pretty accurately.

Actually it did make 15 million. You have to look at the numbers for Thursday, too.

And the people that had a really good time at a movie are jerks? How does that work?

"Man, that was awesome! I loved it!"
"You bastard."

saw it again last night...good muthaf#ckin times muthaf#ckas.

No they are people like TrailerCues insulting moviegoers saying they don't want fun movies and only want "mindless action."

Pirates Of The Carribbean 2 = fun movie.

Snakes On A Plane = mindless action.

POTC 2 = over $407 million

SOAP = $26 million

It was all over the media that SOAP had a level of hype on the net that was almost unprecedent for a movie that wasn´t based on an existing popular franchise. Look here, how many times we had a thread this big for a movie that wasn´t based on some big geek obsession (SW, LOTR, etc.)?

Talk about jumping late on the bandwagon, or should I say flight...

Snakes on a Plane
Directed by David R. Ellis
Rating: 7/10

I was a big fan of Ellis' Final Destination 2, which I consider to be the best in the series. In fact, I might of been more incline to rush out to see this had I know he was behind the helm, but alas I did not find this out till I was sitting in the seat and saw his name up on the silver screen. First off this is not the end all be all of B films, sorry that goes to Evil Dead 2. But it's a flick that's earned it's place right beside Bruce Campbell and Vicent Price.

The plot if it isn't already known simply based on the title is as follows courtesy of IMDB.com:

Nelville Flynn escorts a witness onto a plane headed for Los Angeles. Problem is, an assassin who is bent on killing the witness has released a crate containing about 450 snakes onto the same plane. Nelville finds out and he's bent on doing his job and getting the snakes back where they belong; on land. Or in snake heaven, where they'd be harmless. But can he get the snakes off the plane before it's too late?

---

Let me get to the main problem with Snakes on a Plane which I can't pin-point is the film's fault or the hype the company created around it. Which is it feels forced at times, or I'd rate it higher. Part of the problem is the script is dull and lack any energy what so ever. All the thrill and excitement is brought to the screen by cast and crew. Because I can pretty much guarantee that if you read the script it'd be boring as hell. Because it's pretty obvious some crappy screen-writers were writing a serious script(the guy who wrote the Big Bounce wrote this), and it wasn't till Jackson got hold of it, it took off. So what does this lead to? Mix signals, there's a positive and a downside. The negative, I already said, is that it's kind of dull at points and the cheese is forced. The positive is that it's not stupid wink wink look at how cheezy we are, which I liked.

I liked how none of the actors hammed it up, and the only guy who induced cringe like moments was the guy in the witness protection program. There were lovely cheeze moments like the gratutious sex in the bathroom was hilarious. A lot of the Snake kills were great and I love the pilot. There was a good cast in place and the movie benefited from it. I like how Samuel played his character with respect and like any other role, and it showed. The snake cgi was great because it had the effect of what it'd be like if it was made in the 60s with rubber snakes which is crappy. I like the variety of snakes. I thought the sub-plot with the snake doctor was useless and drag the film down. Over-all the film is fun but it slow cuz of the script's lack of excitement.

uh....POTC2 kinda WAS a mindless action movie.

I watched it last night and I was extremely disappointed. I thought it took itself way too seriously. It was played too straight IMO.

I would be pretty serious too if there were snakes on my flight.:o

I can not wait for this thing to be out a couple months and have it featured as an in-flight movie. I would love to be on the first plane that shows it.

I just got into Atlanta and it was a hell of a shakey flight from take off. All I kept thinking is It"s The Snakes!!!!!! :O

I didn't share with my neighbor, she already looked a little worried
