and this forum doesn't even blink. Am I the only one here who read The Last Family of Krypton? and if not what did you guys think about it?

I thought it was a much finer and sharper return to a character from a legend than Adams' Batman: Odyssey. One of the best Elseworlds in quite sometime overall. Even if the writing seemed a bit heavy handed a few times it wasn't too glaring a flaw.

I loved it but I don't think this forum is used much and most people nowadays don't know or care to know who Cary Bates is.

I made a thread about this two months ago and it didn't even views.

There's also a bigger Superman thread in the DC Comics forum.

Read it and I loved it. Thought it was one of the better Superman stories that I've read recently and certainly a lot better than the boredom that JMS is stewing out atm.

^ seriously, at least New Krypton kept me curious, I'm really struggling with this current arc here. From some out of character moments to it's plodding pace. I'm bearing with it only because I hope it somehow gets a little better but just a few good moments isn't enough for me to forgive the current 3 issues of it so far.

I know and there are many great posters in that section it's just that many don't actually read many current DC books though.

Agree 100%.

Indeed.

:awesome:

I've read the first issue by now, it was good, but like all the elseworlds, it's a little bit forced. So yeah, let's see what comes next.

Oh it gets better just you wait.

The most impressive thing to me is that it took a character so many harp on about being "unrelatable"; gave him a dysfunctional family which is something we could all relate to, without it seeming unnatural. We still have a very powerful Kal who embraces his kryptonian heritage as much as his earth upbringing. We get a variation on the kryptonian man, Jor-El & Lara's guiadance, Brainiac, Lex & Clark knowing each other before Superman etc. Yet it's still not the same old same old presentation. I found that very impressive but not surprising considering this is Mr. Bates after all.

Makes you wonder why an approach like that couldn't have ever been taken "post-crisis" (which I do like so it's not a total knock) in the first place.

I've been losing interest in "Grounded" too but I might keep up with it.

I think I will check out "Last Family of Krypton" when it's a trade.

.

I've given up on it already, to tell you the truth. The pacing is just completely unbearable. I'll come back to it when JMS is done, which will probably be sometime in 2030 at this rate.
