Transformers So, Tranformers will be a HARD PG-13?

Just Megatron's arm has 15,000 moving pieces that all converge like [a] Rubik's Cube.

Damn. No arm-mounted bazooka. :csad:

Either way the FX for this movie will be mindblowing, even if the plot is mindless.

I grew up worshipping Optimus Prime. The animated TRANSFORMERS MOVIE shaped my life. It taught me about friendship and responsibility, valor and pride. And most importantly it taught me that if I die, I should for no reason ever give the matrix of leadership to Ultra Magnus. Because that's just a bad day for everyone.

Therefore, I don't really need a new development to get me more excited about the upcoming Michael Bay TRANSFORMERS movie. That said, there is one anyway: turns out that when the MPAA took a look at the first cut for the movie, they slapped it with a rating of "R" for intense action and violence. Apparently, Bay didn't want to cut the film and so instead, decided to call on the help of Steven Spielberg - who serves as executive producer on the movie - to ask the MPAA to have a change of heart. Turns out that's exactly what happened as the film has now been given a PG-13 rating.

What this hopefully means is that anybody who was worried about how Bay would handle the source material can at the very least rest assured that there's going to be some real action and bloodshed involved. I'm not sure how great that is in the grand scheme of things, but at least we can rest fairly assured that Bay's movie is going to be a mature one... (Thanks to ElderPredator for the tip.)

Watch "This film is not yet rated" and you will understand how the MPAA works. The ratings are given arbitrarily by a small group of people who are supposed to represent the "average" American. There is no set of guidelines on what constitutes an R rating they just make it up as the go along. If the movie makers get a rating they disagree with (read it will lose them lots of money) they can go to a appeals board. This board is made up of top level movie execs from all the major studios. So a person like Spielberg WOULD have significant influence over the appeals board. It's all about $$ people.

Yeah, I'm sure there's more to the story than the little blurb. Maybe when the bots die or explode or whatever, it's really graphic or something. Or maybe some humans get blown up or stepped on and it made them push the R. They rated it R for a reason, but if it was just a bit of being overzealous as you said, then I'd believe SS could talk to them about it. But if they rated it R for a solid reason, I would never believe a director could make them change it without any edits just because he's a Hollywood King. :oldrazz:

I'm sure the soccer moms DO love the Berg, but I'm willing to bet they love their kids more. :p

Yeah i'm sure Spielberg just made a case from the opposing side and they accepted it,probably didn't hurt it was him making said case:woot:

Soccer moms only love their SUV's:csad:

This is just like how Star Wars episode 2 got a PG isntead of PG-13. When you have as much pull as the likes of Lucas or Spielberg, it's not that hard to appeal a rating if it's fairly within reason.

Question: Does Spielberg have that much pull?

Answer: Temple of Doom and Gremlins. If it wasn't for Rpielbergs involvement in them, they would have been R's and PG-13 wouldn't even exist.
Actually, Red Dawn is the very first movie to have PG-13 attached to it.

Yeah, but the rating was made as a result of Temple of Doom and Gremlins. Movie makers were now making films that weren't quite R rated extreme, but they were beyond what was acceptable for PG. hence, the PG-13 rating was christened.

It probably was never R in the first place, its just Shia shooting his mouth off again, much like how he mistaken the Raptor for a Razor. The guy has no credibility.

Yah, I was going to pretty much say the same thing. No way the studio would let an R-rated script get written, much less filmed and edited together.

Which again goes back to the idea that the boards were overzealous with their initial rating and Speilberg had to "calm them down".

I mean Shia said they got the "R" because it was too intense...kinda hard to convey that on paper don't ya' think?

I know that the US is a bit sensive when it comes to movie violence. For instance Blade II was given a 12a in France...I hope this is true (the whole R thing.)

Enough pull to walk into the MPAA and convince them to change an R-rated movie to PG-13 with no edits? Riiigghht.

Actually, Spielberg has gone numerous times to change R-rated movies to lower ratings without cuts:

- Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
- Poltergeist
- Gremlins

It was Spielberg who lead to the creation of the PG-13 rating.
