Something about Doc Ock's plan makes me wonder...

The first time we see him run his fusion machine, he uses a teardrop-sized piece of tridium - and it breaches the containment field. The second time around, he enlarges the containment field (which was probably a good idea), but then he uses a volleyball-sized piece of tridium, and again it fails. What I'm wondering is that if he used the teardrop-sized piece of tridium in the enlarged containment field - would the machine work the way it was supposed to?

No, it wouldn't. The fusion reaction is still unstable, no matter what size sample of tritium he uses.
