Anne Hathaway won an Oscar this year based in part on her performance of one song in Les Misérables.

Now she’s starring in Song One which Worldview Entertainment has signed on to finance and produce.

The drama is a feature debut for helmer Kate Barker-Froyland who will direct from her own screenplay about a young woman who strikes up a relationship with her ailing brother’s favorite musician.

Newly-minted Lotus Entertainment is handling international sales. CAA has domestic.

Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners will produce alongside Hathaway’s Rachel Getting Married producers Marc Platt and Jonathan Demme, with Hathaway herself and Adam Shulman.

“Anne is a brilliant actress and we think she is perfect for this project,” said Woodrow. “We have a very strong creative team and we are looking forward to the start of filming in a couple of weeks.”

Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan will executive produce.

Principal photography starts May 29 in New York.

Other information floating around includes: Hathaway will play an archaeologist returning to the US from a dig in Morocco when her brother is injured. She soon falls for her brother’s favourite musician, a rock star played by British singer-actor Johnny Flynn. And - Johnathan Rice and Jenny Lewis are writing songs for Flynn to perform, but one track will be reserved for Hathaway.

I'd like Anne to star in a more lighthearted musical. Les Mis is very heavy going and she doesn't even star in all of it. Was there ever talk of Anne and a remake of My Fair Lady or am I just imagining that?

Clive Davis announced plans to produce My Fair Lady for Broadway in 2014. "I always wanted to produce a Broadway show, and I've never done it. I'm hopeful we will prepare and finalize everything this year to bring 'My Fair Lady' next year to Broadway with a stellar cast."

Davis wanted Anne and Colin Firth.

Anne said "'I haven't heard for a while what's happening with My Fair Lady and I don't know whether I would do it on stage, or screen, but either would be a treat.''

There was also talk about her starring in Cabaret as Sally Bowles but this proved to be false.

I'm positive she could learn to play a guitar, but in terms of this film's character I am not sure. I'm leaning on the side of no/maybe. First and foremost she's playing an archeologist who falls for her brother's favourite musician. Perhaps there could be a scene of her picking up the guitar and having a go in a playful, funny way.
