So, anyone here heard of “Soon I Will Be Invincible” by Austin Grossman? I just reviewed it HERE. Basically, it’s a comic book story told in a novel format with a satirical bent on superheroes and supervillains. All of the characters and plot devices are basically parodies of actual comic book characters and storylines, the most recognizable being the JLA, specifically Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman. There are plenty of other references as well. For instance, storywise I saw shades of Troy Hickman’s “Common Grounds”, DC’s “Identity Crisis” crossover series by Brad Meltzer, “Supreme Power” by J. Michael Straczynski , The Chronicles of Narnia, etc. Overall, the book had some flaws, which is understandable since the author is a first-timer, but I really enjoyed the novel and I’m interested to see what other people will think of it, both comic book lovers and the more casual reader…

Well, in case anyone is interested, I interviewed Mr. Grossman HERE, so that might provide some insights into the book for you. AND, I'm also running a giveaway for signed copies of the book :D So, you can check out the rules and sign up HERE. It's a really fun book to read and I can't recommend it enough! Thanks and much love & respect.

when is this out in paperback?

Well, since the book just came out in June, it will probably be several months before the paperback is available, although they might shoot for the Christmas holiday.

As far as being satirical, according to Mr. Grossman, that wasn't his intention for the book, and I can see that. It's humorous for sure, and it seems to make fun of certain superhero archetypes, but I think the author is just trying to portray the heroes & villains as people, and the result is an interesting take...

Just finished the book, impressed. It's half the reason I'm here actually (got me interested in the whole comic stuff).

Question: anyone know the story behind the new covers in the UK? Look very well, was surprised when I saw the US covers weren't the same.

Any other UK readers? (I'm Irish actually, but UK prints it all....)

when will this novel be in paperback?

you should do a search to make sure there isn't a thread like the one you're planning on already...

Oh there isn't.....

Mwahahahahahahahahaha (etc etc)

Anyways, my version is paperback. In the UK they drew up some fake "Champion" comic book covers, very nice. Fatale, Blackwolf, and (my favourite) Baron Ether, as well as book scenes.

I read it. The relationships are good but the start is a little slow. Love that Bryan Hitch cover though :woot:
