Who liked the original? I've heard noise of a re-start and it being even darker and closer to the comic / animated series

I completely love the animated series, i do like the film but there was alot of room for improvement, there has been rumours and speculation of a reboot for years now, i can't see it happening to be honest.

it prob. won't happen. just like Todd McFarlane prob. won't be able to get his next animated series of Spawn to the public. (even tho, on the 10th anniv. dvd of Spawn the Series, he said they recorded all of the dialogue for Keith David as Spawn)

I hope they re-start it at some point, but the movie needs to be MUCH better when they do.

I think for one, it needs to be less tame. Why go for a PG-13 rating? Kids don't read Spawn & they shouldn't.

I would absolutely be up for a reboot of Spawn *if* the said reboot is very much akin to the HBO animated series from the late 1990's. I can understand from a studio standpoint, why it was deemed to lighten up Spawn for the general audiences back in 1997, but for a reboot to truly work, it has to clearly differentiate itself from what came before it. And something akin to the HBO animated series would certainly be a step in the right direction.

From someone who was still following Spawn during the late 90's, the summer of '97 was a conflicting summer indeed. I remember not being at all impressed with the live action flick, actually ... I was very disappointed to be perfectly honest. However, I also remember thinking just how awesome the animated series was. And being very impressed with that.

Spawn defined hit and miss that summer.

I liked the movie when I was younger. I bought it a few years back and found it to be quite awful. Clown/Violator was a funny badass though. The CGI is pretty good too. But that's it. It's like Diet-Spawn for babies. Now the HBO series? Holy cow, I loved every second of that. It GOT the character. But i don't like Todd Mcfarlane at all. Go figure.

I loved the HBO series, it was as dark and nasty as you could get. I honestly wish the same company would make a Batman cartoon, or a 10 part Watchmen mini-series. but thats neither here nor there.
The movie was a let down for me. I sort of liked it at the time, but remember thinking that it was a bit lame, and left a lot to be desired. I suppose I could see clear to going to a reboot, but i'm really sick of those, and i think it would just be a CGI acid trip. so I'll pass and hope they do another season of the cartoon someday.

We need more animated series like Spawn for HBO and Showtime. Numerous titles have the potential to be badass like Spawn was back then.

I never understood why they insisted on him not wearing his cape in the movie. He'd wear it for a for seconds at a time for no reason though. . . .

And then you watch the cartoon and the cape is all you can ever see.
Bleh.

though I did like the organic look of his costume.

I think they ditched the cape because a real fabric one would have weighed 200 pounds and the budget and technology just could not handle a CG one.
