SPECULATION: POV of Smallville, 5-10 years after its end

I liked the Davis Bloome / Doomsday development throughout the series, and was interested in how they linked his arrival with Veritas as well as with Zod and Faora. Also with the dilemma is provided Clak in terms of whether he would choose to kill Davis, as well as the idea of having him a paramedic by day and beast by night. Even though it was just like Bruce Banner and the Hulk, it suprised me enough to have me intrigued with the way they handled the character(s).

However, with that said, the silly need to turn everything into romantic drama, the "relationship" with Chloe tuned me out big time and made me appreciate her character less. Then with the decision to separate Davis and Doomsday, and then proceed to have Davis kill Jimmy made the entire buildup and idea to use Black K seem pointless. Yes, it was a completely unexpected twist, but it didn't make sense to the overall arc to have the human stay with the evil beast desires.

I agree with Johnny. The first half, like many have said, was awesome. It wasn't up until about "Legion" that everyone started differing on opinions. Let me do a break down of Lana's arc - the only truly bad thing about season 8:

"Bride" - Awesome episode and, as much as I hated Lana, I was excited to see her back in this new story with a "new" Clark. She didn't cause any problems so I didn't mind her.
"Legion" - Pretty much the same as last episode, except I was irritated that the Legion said she would have such an impact on the world. That was just stupid and necessary for the writers to give Lana that sort of future.
"Bulletproof" -Don't really recall her involvement in this episode other than the end when Clark kissed her. This was the scene where everything took a turn for the worst.
"Power" - My God. The only truly horrible episode of this season. You all know why, so I won't even bother.
"Requiem" - I'll probably be murdered for this but I actually liked this episode. The Clark/Lana ending was really dumb and definitely set the episode back but, overall it was a good episode. We saw Lex again (sort of) and the Oliver/Toyman plot was very interesting.
The Jimmy/Henry ending is another scenario of things in season 8 I didn't seem to care about as much as others. The way I saw it, from MY POV, was that Kelly Souders/Brian Peterson were given the reigns to the show at the beginning of the season. It was then their job to fix the mistake that Al/Miles made back in season six: bringing Jimmy onto the show/bring him in at the age of 20! Now, seriously, how in the world were they supposed to fix that while still having the show align with the mythology? What they did was a pretty bold move.

Overall, aside from "Power" and the ending of "Requiem," I never had any huge problems with season 8. Just my opinion though.

You forgot about the Lana/Tess stuff in Bulletproof with Lana 'saving' Tess. I found it cringeworthy... but I guess Dawn Osteroff likes her 'girl power'

A major problem many had with the Veritas Arc and consequently the Bloome origins, is it retconned a lot of stuff from previous seasons. The Ksite boards listed it all. There was a lot of lazy and convoluted writing there.

as for syndication i am sure the show is going to have a nice long life in that on various networks like my network, spike, tnt, syfy and other networks i might not know about off hand.

Spike?

I really don't think CW's Smallville would fit in there.

I think networks like ABC family (if it still exists) and whatever networks rerun Charmed, Buffy and shows like that... will air Smallville.

Ehh, I can understand why you feel that way but I have to disagree. While Osteroff is notorious for wanting more 'girl power' moments, I never felt like that particular scene was one of them. They had the entire next episode to do that :o

Good points. Completely agree.

man of tomorrow i was just throwing out random network names, yea its more likely to be abc family, my network, syfy, then of course networks for other networks for different countries.

I think SV legacy really depends on Nolan's Superman. If Nolan's Superman turns out to be a huge hit then SV will fade quickly and quietly away. Only reason why I say this is because Smallville brings such a mixed reaction to most Superman fans that if another product comes along and is more widely accepted then Smallville will be forgotten and only remembered as a foot note because in the end it will not really have a lasting effect on Superman as a whole. For example Lois and Clark gave us Superman and Lois getting married, Superman Returns gave us Chris Kent, Donner gave us the new FOS and the Crystals. What at the end of everything will SV leave us with has yet to be seen; but that's what it needs however to be remembered or have its place in Superman history IMO because with out it the show will be like Superboy after a while people will remember it but not care about it.

yea only time will tell. but i think it will still have a special place in the superman history and all that. Being how long it has been on and other things too.

I think Smallville legacy really in most part rely on the fans of the show as far as how it will be remembered. For fans of the show it will always be remembered and hold a special place with them. As for it's place in Superman history at the end of the day no one will care how long a show lasted if their product left people with mixed feelings. Which this show has done for its entire run. What it needs to do is leave its mark. Because records are made to be broken sooner or later we will get another Superman or Batman show or whoever who can and will last as long or longer then SV then where will the show be when its one clam is broken.

yea who knows how it will be. i do hope the show will be remembered well and all that. And it could have effects to later superman stuff who knows.
