Spider-Man 3 to open in Japan on May 1, 2007

Australia gets Spiderman 3 on May 3rd aswell :woot:

Jeez you yanks sure get iffy over this dont ya, well atleast we finally get somthing before you, in the videogaming world we have to wait long times after you get your hand on this, I only just got Final Fantasy 12 in my hands this week and you guys have had it for months.

We still have another 2 weeks to wait for the PS3 to be released here, and you have had it for 4-5 months already...

I had to wait 5 MONTHS for MGS4 to release here after you had your hands on it, how would you like waiting for another 5 MONTHS after the rest of us to see SM3?... christ, its only 1-3 days more waiting...im sure you will live...

There's one main reason Spider-Man is opening in Japan like this. Marvel is underexposed in Asia. It's a massive market and they're under exposed. I didn't realize this but it's their focus. I just listend to Peter Cuneo's analyst conference call and he talked specifically about Asia and the challenges there and what better way to make them feel special then have the Premiere there. This is a Global market and the US fans are there for Spidey. Great move.

 Since when? Marvel was the first American comic book company to get adapted into a weekly Manga Company for several of their head line characters back in the late 60's early 70's.

But generally I know what you're saying. But it doesn't add up when you think of how popular Marvel is over there in Hong Kong and Japan.

Wonder if we'll get a review of the film on May 1'st then??... Dear God, let it be EXstremely good!

What are you talking about? They're very well known-here. You have no idea.

^ I actually do have an idea. I realize Spider-Man is well known but Marvel's brand is not penetrating the Asian market like they want it to. It doesn't matter what your experiences are it matters what kind of revenue Marvel is getting out of Asia from their projects. It's not only Japan as Japan is probably the strongest supporter in Asia but the growth potential in Japan is huge compared to the market established in the US. These are documented facts not just random statements.

Marvel's international growth has been strong but it's been "weakest" in Asia.

Way to play on words. You said they were "underexposed", which they aren't, and that's what I replied to, not all these financial matters. So yeah, I'm right, and you're right too.

^ It wasn't an intentional play on words. Asia has shown the slowest growth of the Marvel brand which also means the brand needs more exposure in Asia perhaps in different ways than other territories. Financial matters are important because it shows growth in theatrical revenues, video game sales, toy sales, merchandise sales etc...If year over year Asia is growing at a much slower pace than the rest something needs to be done. So having the Premiere there is a big step in giving Spidey much more of a presence and more exposure in Japan and Asia. So why is their a growth problem? Underexposed...or maybe underexposed in the areas that matter most to Asians as compared to other cultures. They won't know till they hit it. To you it might feel like you see Marvel and Spidey everywhere but Marvel wasn't getting the growth they wanted so now they're doing more.

Um...the first Spider-Man movie was released on a Friday.

So, Spider-man 3 will also start on May 1 in Germany.;)

Actually the official release date for Germany is May 3

A german site says the world premiere of Spidey3 will be on April 16th in Tokyo. I don't know it it's true... but I can't really believe it. I thought it would premiere on May 1 in Tokyo. German premiere is said to be on April 25, with Tobey Maguire and Sam raimi visiting Berlin.
Is that true?? I haven't heard anything about this so far.

This site says that German release date has indeed been pushed forward May 3rd to May 1st.

Sony has also pushed forward the release in Malaysia.

"Spider-Man 3" to Swing Into Malaysia before US

By Pamela June

8 Mar - "Spider-Man 3" is swinging into Malaysian cinemas two days before its US release.

Local fans of Spidey can now have the chance to catch him before their counterparts in the United States. While the worldwide release is from 1st to 4th of May, Malaysia has chosen 2 May to be the date for Spidey to swing into our cinemas.

When contacted, Sony Pictures, the distributor of the movie, confirmed this release date for Malaysian cinemas. "With Wesak Day and Labour Day around that time, we decided to release it on the 2nd," a Sony spokesperson added.

In this sequel, Peter Parker is shown to have found a balance between his normal life and that of Spider-Man. However, a mysterious substance has changed his suit into black, bringing forth a darker side to Parker and Spidey. Will he be able to fight it? And also, will he be able to fight the Sandman and Venom, the two new villains who are out to destroy the superhero?

^ Another smart move to increase the growth in Asia. Piracy had a bit to do with the growth issue though. Now Maylasia is no longer on the hot list of problem countries with Piracy so that also probably aided in that decision. Good.
