I wonder if undoing Peter's identity has a cost to it just like in the comics.

Instead of undoing Peter and MJ's marriage you'll see small "cracks" such Electro in the MCU in this film.

Hear me out.

I wonder if Electro's casting is just the start of it?

Sony might be using Marvel's multi-verse saga to to effectively "customize" their dream Spider-Man franchise?

They can have their cake and eat it. Take the same actors and characteristics from popular aspects of previous iterations and put it into MCU Spidey while also connecting it to Venom etc.

I mean it's a smart idea because it retroactively expands the scope of Sony's Spidey films and fits them all into one big package, it also ties them all to the MCU which is a popular thing to want (plus they're already trying to do that with Venom and Morbius).

The Vulture is already in Morbius.
Exactly. When I say retroactively expand the scope of Sony's Spidey movies I'm talking the Raimi and Webb movies being fitted into part of the whole current picture. Then Sony can be all "look they were MCU too lol. Multiverse!!!"

See, I don't think they have to even do that. They already can do this without some convoluted Spiderverse film. The Bond franchise had Judi Dench play M for Pierce Brosnan, and then continue the role for Daniel Craig in a rebooted version of the series. No multiverse spanning Bond film was needed. You want Dafoe as Norman back? Cast him. Same for anyone else you want back.

I don't really expect the multiverse to end anytime soon. It's too big a concept to close the door on IMO.

Neither Do I.

I suspect the multiverse lays the ground for characters like Deadpool to be incorporated into the MCU without having to reboot the character and throw out the popular previous films.

So, I don't think the multiverse concept will be limited to just one film .

I actually agree with you there and they even set the groundwork for that with Simmons coming back.

My guess is that this film has went through several revisions. We've started with Kraven being the villain, then the Sony/Disney fallout to what the current concept is now.

The MCU Spidey films have not been stand alone MCU adjacent films but rather Spider-Man films that deal with the fallout from the event movies (Civil War for Homecoming, Endgame for FFH). With this film Sony probably see the opportunity to complete this theme while also capitalising on popular aspects of previous iterations.

I thought the mentor angle was better in FFH. I don't think it will go overboard here. Seems like with all that's going on, it won't be Stark heavy.

It seems like the only qualifications needed to be Peter's mentor in the MCU is if you were previously a rich and arrogant genius, with a goatee to go with it.

I guess that's why Uncle Ben doesn't meet the criteria in this universe. :o

Venom 2 and Morbius would have been out by now.

Maybe MCU Uncle Ben had a goatee and that's why MCU Peter loves hanging around men with goatees.

Who asked the fool to shave properly? :D

I was hoping Peter would be the mentor in this one, leading a couple of mutants with Amazing powers who become some of his dearest Friends. But I liked the first two flicks, even the puddle-deep teen road trip sequel, so I am cautiously optimistic about this one.

I wouldn't put it past Sony's wheelhouse. Toomes is already in Morbius so that's a start.

I'm very curious on how WandaVision will set all this up now.

I'm surprised at how many people don't like the idea of Doctor Strange in SM3. With the filming schedules, I certainly get the feeling it'll be a smaller role than people are thinking and land somewhere between his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok and Tony's appearance in Homecoming.

Guys ... The Raimi trilogy is arguably my favourite trilogy of all time, alongside the Indiana Jones trilogy.
I will prodably have a heart attack if I ever see Tobey's Spider-Man on screen ... the idea that he may have a cameo is killing me of pure excitiment. Heck, even if he is a 1-second cameo, I really can't wait to know if he is in it or not. I want to know ... NOW!

Live-action Spider-Verse is clear as day at this point.

If I hear even a snippet of this again, I mean, I won't be able to contain myself.

When the Elfman music kicks in and Tobey comes out of that portal. Oh my Lord, I may not survive.

Sometimes I can't help but wonder if Tom Holland is ever disappointed with some of his own material.
He has the potential to be an amazing Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but I still feel the stuff he's given undermines him. That's been my major problem with Homecoming and Far From Home, that they aren't letting him grow up a whole lot or tackling Spider-Man's tribulations and angst as much as they should.

That scene with him and Tony in Civil War was a great prelude, which is all the more disappointing imo.

Right, especially with The Devil All The Time, or even some moments like the plane scene with Happy in FFH, or hell even his child stuff like The Impossible, Holland is good at angsty stuff. They just make him in an almost one-note "gee whiz, golly gosh" mode 98% of the time.

I think the best portrayal's of Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man have been Civil War and Infinity War, because at least in those it seemed like the Russo's were able to balance both the wise cracking qualities of the character as well as his hero qualities. Yeah the Spider-Sense thing was weirdly inconsistent at times, but he never felt more like Spider-Man IMO and instead of progressing from that they for some reason decide to take five steps back with the character in his own movies which has always bothered me and I'm someone who really enjoyed Homecoming.

I did comment in my review how in Homecoming he seems like he devolves into being less competent after holding his own and being a worthy combatant in an airport battle with dozens (?) of superheroes where he fights The Winter Soldier, Falcon, and Captain America and comes up with the plan to take down Giant-Man.

And then it whiplashes again in Infinity War (back in Russo hands), where he's a capable member of the team who (IIRC?) takes out Ebony Maw and would have gotten the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos' hand if Star-Lord hadn't decided that was a great time to start wailing on Thanos.

Although I did think he did feel like he was stepping up to the plate and coming into his own over the course of Far From Home where he ends up almost singlehandedly taking out Mysterio and his armed drone army, and it felt like by the end of FFH he was forming into being a worthy superhero in his own right.

Which makes it more disappointing that now it feels like he's gonna get shoved into some multiverse thing where he'll be part of the ensemble, maybe even with other versions of Spider-Man.
