I would be ok if they made a multiverse movie at some point but I don't think it should be the next one. They should just continue the story and not go to some crazy direction. I admit that it would be awesome to see Tobey Maguire Spider-Man again though. Also a multiverse movie might be the only way to get live-action versions of Scarlet Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099.

If its multiverse. then there may not be much change at all. even if he is slightly defined personality wise.

If you have several other villain. you won't put too much effort into one thats already been used in another film.

My current question is this: if this is the Spiderverse event, is it also the Spider-Man vs Sinister Six confrontation? If it is, then I do think worrying about this being too soon is valid. I doubt Electro is the only villain and I don't know what the source of the multiverse shenanigans is yet. So hard to see what they're thinking for threat here. But, I do have reservations about this until I learn more. This can easily be too crammed. If they had done this a bit more down the line and slow built it, then we wouldn't have that same issue.

So I think feeling like this is early is a valid concern.

Building up towards it would definitely be best, yeah. I'll be paying very close attention to WandaVision and Multiverse Of Madness to see if they might set up groundworks for it. Assuming SM3 doesn't do the same, that is.

Thats the logic that fans sadly mistake. the whole you can't do it yet thing. the whole they won't do it yet thing. when they have jumped into many things that fans would say they can't do YET!
I agree with this, especially in terms of the MCU. The MCU and Feige have shown they are more interested in adapting more recent stories than any classic stuff. Holland is more ultimate than Lee/Ditko and we saw stuff like Winter Solider and Civil War way before than expected. For all we know it's Marvel, not Sony that's pushing into this direction.

He quickly deleted it soon after he posted. Whether it was out of not letting people misinterpret it or because Marvel and Sony are truly planning to build towards an eventual live-action Spider-Verse is up for debate. I'm leaning towards the latter for now.

Ditto. Particularly on Sony's end. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony wanted to tie up some loose ends with both the Raimi Films and the Webb Films.

Both franchises ended with things unresolved, in a sense , so I wouldn't be surprised if , at the very least, we have a cameo from Maguire and Garfield.

It'd be a way of saying to the GA and the fans," these versions characters still exist some where out there, and we acknowledge them".

Plus, from a marketing and money pov, it's too good an opportunity to walk away from the idea of an eventual Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield team up Spiderman film.

Does anyone else think that it's more likely that this is a setup to the Sinister Six rather than to the Multiverse? Maybe both?

My preference is it's cog in the wheel of the Sinister Six.

Apparently Daniel RPK is saying on his Patreon that Kirsten Dunst, Dane Dehaan, and possibly other old Spider-Man movie actors are being courted to reprise their roles in future MCU projects. I don't know how accurate that is right now but I've seen the Daniel RPK guy around previously with rumors, don't know what his track record is I mean. Maybe somebody else here can fill in the blanks a bit with that.

He has a better track record than most, but honestly that still isn't saying much.

What about Emma Stone then?

Now she's one I wish they'd bring back if they bring back a lot of old cast members for a multiverse movie. Imagine seeing Andrew Garfield's Peter interact with Gwen from another world where she's got powers and her Peter died and they can have that moment of comforting each other.

I mean, that could be a real good moment of closure for that franchise that it didn't really get. Makes me remember how Sony's original rough ASM3 plan was for her to come back anyway probably as a resurrected clone cause Peter found a formula to bring back the dead people in his life lol.

She could come back as Mary Jane, which is what everyone thought she was going to play at first anyway.

Me too. What if Electro is the big bad of SM3?

I hope not. They already have to win me back just by having him in it. Making him the main villain ain’t doing that

As unexpected as him appearing at all is, I just can't see Marvel making Foxx as Electro the main villain when he already played that villain, and especially when it was an unpopular version in a movie that wasn't well received. It has too much of a, "Didn't we get this already, and didn't it suck the first time?" vibe to it.

Understandable, but these movies have had an incredible track record with villains so far. Keaton's Vulture and Gyllenhaal's Mysterio are two of my favorite comic book movie villains ever. I don't think it's unreasonable that Marvel, Sony, and Jamie Foxx can find a way to make a new version of Electro work.

If there's one thing about the MCU Spidey movies so far that I've felt most positive about it's probably Vulture and Mysterio. Only thing about Mysterio I wasn't happy about was the Stark connection, fine the first time but not a second, and please not another one in this third movie.

I love Kirsten. Her MJ gets a ton of hate and is often seen as the weak part of the trilogy. It wasn't a perfect portrayal of the character, but it had enough of the source material in her for me to be satisfied with.

Bottom line: I'd love to see her again especially if Tobey's coming back too. I picture we'll find Raimi's Peter and MJ to be married with a kid.

The last few days of rumors and speculation are making my head spin. Just want to sit back and wait and see how this all plays out.

It's not a question for me of whether they can make it work, but why they would want the stigma that comes with it. It's been pointed out that Jamie Foxx is a good actor, but it's not like Marvel Studios is some small outfit that can't attract talent. Just this year they got Christian Bale to play a villain.

The idea that they're doing a Spider-Verse film and using it to set up the Sinister Six is a better explanation for what's happening here than anything.
