Comics Spider-man Reign

Also, to anyone who bought both printings of the first issue...

Did you notice that they removed Peter's winky from the second printing!? :wow: :woot: lol

Aloha,
Yes, they did. On ebay they were selling it as the Nude scene #1. What was funny for me was that I had the Black cover #1 first and couldn't find a red costume cover for about a month or more. That's part of being a collector- the hunt.
Spidey rules with variants

I just picked up all 4 issues. I absolutely loved it. I want to read it again!
I have never enjoyed any comic where I wanted to read it again right after.
I think I have to go as far as to say it is my favorite Spidey story.

Although I did not love the series I am kinda in a stink cause I can't find a mint copy of #4, that’s the only issue I need. That was the best issue too,

By far the best Spidey Mini I have read in years...

I have read it numerous times already, and it has made me weep like a baby plenty of times.

The 1st thing I drew in my life was Spider-Man, and my Paps still has the picture next to his bed. (My Dad got me into Spidey and comics full stop-period for you Yanks.) When the hardcover comes out, I'll buy my Paps a copy, and I'll make sure he keeps it next to the 1st drawing I ever made in my life. (I'm pretty sure I won't even have to tell him why)
:)

what i don't get is what was the flashback about near the end of the first issue - he appears for the first time, beats up reign members then suddenly he's in the red and blue's a tosses a thug from a roof to the ground below. first time i read it i thought that was actually happening, but obviously it can't be seeing as he was in differen't clothes, not up high, and the background was white... ??

Actually what we are seeing here is; while Peter is beating on that reign guy, he is reflecting back to when he first caught up with Uncle Ben's killer.

To which he refers to as "My first meal."

That is why Spidey is shown wearing the ol' red and blues. And why the thug he's beating is wearing different clothes. And why there are present day Police Officers on the ground too.

So he really through the reign guy off the building? seems odd that he was on ground level then he's suddenly on the top of a building and then ground level again. Maybe the misprints will be worth something? He really did alot of killing in this series then...

What's interesting to me. Is that when you read this again, knowing that it's meant to be Peter's confrontation with Ben's killer. Is that the way it's presented here is very open for interpretation. Because it actually looks like Peter had thrown the guy out of the window.

Although I prefer to believe we're seeing the "movie version" of events. Where Ben's killer stumbles backwards and falls to his death accidentally.

Can someone explain to me what the deal with Doc Ock is?
I have many questions about what is happening here.
Ock realizes that Spidey is back, so he takes him from the Sinner Six, to the grave yard, tells him he wants to switch bodies with him, then trows MJ at him and buries himself?
Then Spidey gets in a coffin, and jumps out in his red and blues wich he buried with MJ because the bell was making too much noise?

What am I missing?

Doc Ock programmed his arms to get Spider-Man once he returned. He programmed them to take him to the graveyard where Spidey's loved ones lay, and had his arms play a pre-programmed monologue that he recorded when he was alive. Ock was hoping to use Spider-Man to reignite the age of the super powered beings.

Both Doc Ock and Spider-Man were born from nuclear accidents. So, Ock used Spider-Man as his instrument to do this. He saw them as one of a kind.

Ock always hated Spidey, but he still acknowledge him as a worthy adversary. That was established in Web of Death in ASM #397.

It was wonderfully used in this story.

I liked it, but it's nothing new nor spectacular (no pun intended), it's the Dark Knight, Spider-Man version. Nice story, good to see something a little darker for pete.

The whole Corpse of Doc Oc threw me off though, still not sure what to make of all that. After that sureal moment the story really could have taken off and gotten away from The Dark Knight a-like story and really became something new and different that we haven't seen before, but it didn't.

I think it would have been a lot better if Pete would have died IMHO. Overall it was nice but that's about it.

Ahh....well that makes a little more sense. I picked up on the whole Ock wanted Pete to re-ignite the super powered beings thing, but I didn't get the rest of that.

I'll be picking up the HC in the next week or so. So, await my review. Unless someone else has it.

I got to flip through it the other day at my LCS, but I only had money for one HC, and "Death of the Stacys" was what I got.

It looks like it has all of those wicked images we saw promoting it...the ones that were up on newsarama, featuring the more photo-realistic Spidey picks. It also looks to have all the covers, and the usual preface and afterword in it. I didn't have much time to look through it. I'll probably pick it up later on, I'm tight on cash right now, so buying another Hardcover so soon really isn't the best idea.

I went to see what was in it, but it was sealed.

Anyway, what surprised me was the price- a HC normally costs what? £20-odd.

This one = £12.99.

I ignored this when it first came out, because to be honest, "future" type stories, and really mini series in general, tend to underwhelm me...but with all the recent hub-bub and comparisons to DKR, i decided to score a set from Ebay...

I thought it was brilliant.

Hey guys, I haven't posted here in a couple years, but I just picked up REIGN and needed to check out your thoughts on it.

I really loved this book, and I think that, above all, the art work really sold it for me. It's similar to the look of a project I've been working on, and I love the fact that this type of art can become commercially accepted.

Anyways, I did pick up the hardcover. Its gorgeous, a really nice package for a great price - $32CDN. To answer your questions about the extras;

2 pages of character sketches, issue 1 varient cover, issue 1 2nd printing cover, issue 2 second printing cover. There are also two scrapped covers, which Andrews said didn't deliver the same theme as the book, 'pain' all other covers, he says, are about pain.

As was mentioned before there is an 'Afterword' as well, very sentimental too.

I hadn't heard much about the series before it was released, so I didn't know much about it, but I knew, once I saw it, that it was something that every spider-man fan should read.

Definitly pick up the hardcover and keep those originals safe.

Cool.

Good stuff.

So after reading this last night, I will give it a 2 1/2 out of 5. I did not like a lot of it, just a little. I hate future stories. I hated Peter here. I actually liked JJJ, which is a bad thing since I want him to die in the 616. Killed too many likable characters for me. It was just... creepy in some parts.

I thought it was lame. Everything down to the name of the reign. The forced edginess. I give it one choad out of five.

FINALLY got the trade yesterday.

Read issue one yesterday and part of two.

Gonna finish it this weekend.

Still very, very good.

Quick question for anyone that knows. I haven't read Spider-Man Reign, but keep being told that it's excellent. I know it takes place years after this current timeline in comics. Is it better than the other titles out right now? If so, I need to make up ground quickly...

No, I can honestly say it's no where as Good as Sensational. Just no.
