So who picked this up on FCBD and what did you all think of it?

It was boring. Spidey vs. a car, big whoop.

And it had a preview for One More Day with Joe Q's terrible art. Ugh.

At one point Joey Q had some gorgeous artwork...nowadays I can't stand his work. Hate the fact that he's drawing such a "bigtime" Spider-man story. :csad:

I rather enjoyed it.It was a fun and funny story.I just wish I knew when it took place in continunity.

They said it's apparently not in continuity, but they might bring Overdrive back into regular continuity.

Oh... boy.:whatever:

Overdrive is such a Spider-Girl type villain, a bit weird seeing one of those in a Spider-Man title.

Both Slott and Joey Q have stated that all the characters within "Swing Shift" will appear in regular Spider-Man books in the near future, and that this story does indeed take place in regular continuity.

Personally, I enjoyed it! It was fun, light-hearted, and it was well worth what it cost! The "One More Day" preview was the only low-point for me.

I loved it. I liked the villians making bets on the fight and I adored Jackpot.

I also liked that all Pete wanted to do was get to May's birthday party.

i wonder why jackpot didn't look a little FAMILAR to the webhead?

Joe, last week you released a preview to the Spider-Man: Swing Shift story by Dan Slott and Phil Jimenez. In the preview, Aunt May is healthy, Spidey's in his red & blues, and as far as I can tell he doesn't act as if he's wanted by the police. Now, I believe Dan Slott has mentioned this story will affect Spidey in the months to come (post- One More Day) so I'm guessing it's in continuity. Where will this fit, continuity-wise?

Answer, from future Spidey editor Steve Wacker:

Close, but no cigar, Cheese. The FCBD story doesn't take place in current continuity. We were trying to create a timeless kind of adventure that anyone coming out of the new movie could pick up and feel like they got a full Spidey adventure.

However, we did drop a couple hints (like the drop-dead gorgeous Jackpot) of new characters that may be picked up on by the new (and as yet unannounced) Amazing Spider-Man creative team. Dan and Phil were both anxious to play along and help. Luckily their schedules worked out and we couldn't be happier to snag them for Free Comic Book Day.

Because it takes place in future continuity! :woot:

I was pumped for this and was the only FCBD book I really wanted but unfortanatly...fealt indifferent after reading it.

The artwork was top notch (it's Jiminez, c'mon!) but the bulk of the story was very...blargh.

I enjoyed certain parts of it such as the whole Aunt May/cake bit, the 2 police officers, JJJ, and Spidey himself was written well. Though I wouldn't like to see Overdrive as a villain again (or at all) I thought he served his purose and was kinda neat as a one off baddie.

I pray that the Jackpot angle is NEVER used again cuz it is just plain awful and stupid. I'm sure Marvel will use MJ as this new hero though, which is sad.

The bit in the villain bar with the Better (or whatever his name was)...anyone else think of DC's character The Calculator right away?

Though interesting, not really a character I'd like to see again either.

It was ok... It had some cute moments and nice art, but I think I would have liked it more if it had ended differently.

I wasn't sure what the problem was, and may-be I still don't get it. Seriously... Peter couldn't get the cake out of his webbing so he had to miss Aunt May's party?! Huh? (What the heck does he do about his clothes when he's webbed them up?)

Jackpot really threw me. It seemed like it was supposed to be MJ, but I kept wondering what I must have missed?

I expected more with Slot. The punchline fell flat.

LOL. Yeah, I DID get my money's worth.

As for the One More Day preview... rumors about the story scare me, although this didn't reveal anything offensive... except for art, specifically the way Peter was drawn. Ugg.

You know... I bet no artist would think of drawing the female cast members as less than attractive... you know... to keep the male readers happy. So, as a FEMALE reader is it too much to ask that Peter not look like a freak?! Please? :csad:

Well, I guess i'm in the minority on this one... because I absolutely loved this!

As i'm currently reading through the Amazing Omnibus, one classic at a time, I could appreciate this story had a very old school flavor to it. Not just the thought balloons and the way Peter's Spider-sense was depicted. But the Birthday Cake element was just so Stan Lee! :word:

As for the webbing thing. Great! Here's hoping that the serious damage control that is "One More Day" sees the return of mech web-shooters!

I liked seeing The Bar With No Name from Slott's She-Hulk book. Makes me think that if Dan Slott really is the new writer of Amazing, we can look forward to classic feeling Spidey stories with a contempary dressing

I doubt Overdrive will return. But Mister Negative? A mystery mastermind organising crimes behind the scenes? Sweet! This is just so retro, I love it!

Not too sure about Jackpot though. Guess we'll just have to wait until OMD to find out what's going on there.:o

So I read it. It was ok, I guess.

Because it takes place in future continuity! :woot:
 Yes, because if it was the future, time would have rolled back maybe five years Marvel time for spider-man. And we all know spidey can never ever grow as a character.

think of it as a tv style story maybe that'll help
or this
remember when tony cloned thor during civil war maybe he has clones of other people not just superhumans including mj thats what jackpot is

I will not on any level believe that that's MJ. It could be a clone, that's fine. Like in the TV show when she had water powers. How dare she say Tiger? Damn you, slott.

Okay, I'll bite. What's so bad about having MJ be a superhero for a short while? A lot of people seem to love Felicia, and even though she doesn't technically have superpowers, she's still a costume.

I'm curious to see what direction it would go in, although even I will admit it does somehow take away from Peter's "specialness." I don't really care for the name "Jackpot" either - it's just asking for every man in the universe to look at her and say, "I'd like to hit that." :whatever:

Okay, one of the only ways I can accept MJ as a superhero is if Marvel "Killed" her, and brought her right back but only mindwiped until the time when she regains her memory and loses her powers. But I can Never accept a mindwipe, at all.

if itIS MJ she DOES look a bit she she took being felicia's "opposite number" a little too literaly

Not picked it up, ugh- which day was the actual fcbd?
