Clone Genesis, Death of Gwen Stacy, Death of Jean Dewolf, Spider-Man Blue, and Kravens Last Hunt are all solid picks

The first seven volumes of JMS' run are good as well.

And, of course, if you want to read the classic stories, the Essential TPBs are always great.

I've also heard good things about Dan Slott's mini-series, Spider-Man/Human Torch, not sure if it's a trade or a digest, though.

Something about the death of the Stacys makes for great reading
