Split/Second

I actually think thats looks really, really terrible. Saw the trailer on Spike the other night and thought it looked pretty bad.

I wouldn´t say it looks epic, but it does look good.
And it´s from Blackrock studios, and Pure was a good game, so, i´m expecting this one to be so too.

And i´m also not much into racing games

Doesn't really look bad to me, but meh, looks kind of like a mix of traditional racing mixed with Burnout fun. I don't care at all about traditional racing, so half of it's fairly uninteresting to me

I dont think there is much "traditional" about this one. I wonder if you can control what happens, like attacks? Cause if so, then that'd be pretty normal. Graphics are looking nice I think from the trailer. Hopefully it wont get too repetitive. Looks fun to me, making the environment go crazy around you while you drive.

Well, from the video it looks a lot like they are simply racing, as usual, as traditional racers do, and then you somehow trigger off these traps. That's what I meant

I'm a fan of racing games with lots of crashes and destruction, so this looks right up my alley. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

GamesRadar had something on it that makes it sound really awesome:
Split/Second (360/PS3, PC)

We’re about to say something that might rile you: screw Forza and forget Gran Turismo. They’re boring. Our E3 racing game of choice is destructo-combat racer Split/Second. It looks as hot and feels as fast as any other racing game out there, but buries the needle on the excite-o-meter by giving each driver the power to trigger environmental hazards. BIG environmental hazards. In the airport level we raced, the lower-tier items were things like exploding roadside gas tanks. But build up enough power (by drifting, jumping, or having close shaves) and you could first demolish the control tower, revealing a new shortcut, and then bring an entire jetliner crashing down into your opponent’s grill. Best of all, the game tells you when your enemies are in range of a hazard, so you can watch the carnage happen in front of you instead of glancing at it in your rear-view mirror.

Yeah, I was surprised because I hadn't heard anything at all about it until I read that article. You'd think the possibility of crashing a plane into your opponents would grab more attention.

If you can do stuff like that I wonder what other ungodly things you can bring down on your opponents.

I wish it were developed by Lucasarts. Then you could bring down the Death Star or a Star Destroyer on them. :D

Not only that , but maybe you could even somehow initiate the Death Star canon to fire on your opponent.

Watch some videos on gametrailers from E3, and it will blow your mind.
In one of those, you can see the plane crahsing down.
Like i said, i´m not much into driving games, but this one looks extraordinary, even EA said so, and they said that Need for Speed was better than other driving game on display.

The las t driving game i bought was Pure, which was made by this guys, so, i´ll keep my eyes out for this one too.
Coming out in 2010.

Dang, this thread is old. I can't believe no one's talked about Split/Second for a whole year. :csad:

Anyway, I just bought Split/Second yesterday, since Target was having a sale on it and some other games for $37. It's really, really good. The only problem I'm having at the moment is that I suck at drifting, so the AI drivers keep catching up to me on turns. The AI is surprisingly good (or maybe I'm just really bad, which is a distinct possibility). I spent like 3 hours playing through the events in episode 1 and there are 12 episodes in the game, so that's gonna amount to a pretty solid length. Then, of course, there's multiplayer on top of that, and this is one of the few games I'm actually excited about trying MP in.

I got to Episode 6 and I'm taking a break. I like the new modes you unlock, but the game gets a bit repetitive. Don't worry about the drifting, the cars you get in the beginning handle very poorly. You unlock some really nice ones during the course of the game.

Cool. I've only unlocked two cars so far, but I noticed that they each seem to conform to one of the three starter cars' "types," if you will. Like, the first car you unlock is a slightly faster muscle car, the second car you unlock is a better car built mainly for speed, and I imagine the third car will be a tougher truck. Do they keep going along the lines of those types or do they introduce different types later on?

They pretty much stick to that. They either get faster, stronger, better drifters, or great acceleration. Once you get several different cars, just experiment and see which is better for you. I still use a car that I got four cars ago. I'm just more comfortable with it compared to the newer ones I have.

I'm still using the initial muscle car most of the time. Its handling feels a lot more comfortable to me than either of my unlocked cars. Although I do sometimes switch if I keep losing a race.
