Spring Breakers (Selena Gomez / Ashley Benson / Vanessa Hudgens)

Seems like a movie ill watch..... On Netflix next year. Stoned and go "oh **** Franco"

I bloody hate Harmony Korine. There's one thing making dark cynical movies, theres another thing making narcissistic trash and passing it off as art.

Uh, that's all art is at the end of the day! :whatever:

art is so subjective and challenging...so it's many things.

You guys sound like a bunch of ****ing hipsters. :o

MOAR BENSON IN BIKINI SHOTS!!!! :argh:

I'm actually really interested in seeing this - if the film is dark and disturbing. It seems to be playing up the notion of "it's awesome to have fun but too much fun can be deadly." If it's handled in the right way, it could be a disturbing film with arcs similar to 54, Boogie Nights, and Magic Mike (all about playing girls and getting wasted), but with female protagonists in seeing the dark side of having a wild and crazy life. Franco seems to be giving it his all.

I guess Franco is basing his performance on BOF's Jett.

Gomez looks way too young, she still has a 12 y/o face, I find that disturbing for this kind of film.

i disagree. she looks way to young for this kind of movie.

Who you trying to convince, us or yourself?

She looks fine lol I think James Franco looking like RiFF RaFF is the biggest problem.

From the tone of the trailer, I'm pretty sure the film IS supposed to be disturbing. It's not really promoted as a fun "girls gone wild" film - despite having hot girls in it - it's promoted as "this is the trouble you get." It's a morality tale/horror film/dark fairy tale (Franco is the big bad wolf they should have avoided).

I saw the trailer and I don't find the subject disturbing. What I find distrusting is how young Gomez face looks. I have no issue with Hugens or the other girl but Gomez have the face maturity of a 12 y/o daughter and I feel like an old perv looking at her or see her in a sexualized way as the film presents her.

So you think it's going to be a light film like 'Piranha' detailing spring break rather than a dark film (which those who saw it at TIFF is saying it's a dark drama)? Part of the darkness is absolutely due to the tone of the film itself.

And she's not young. I date girls that age. I'm 24 so 20 isn't young to me. And she doesn't really look younger from other 20 year olds. Some people my age still look like teens while others look older. It's the constant battle for 20-somethings of wanting to look younger or older depending.

For me she looks way younger than her co stars Hudgens and "the other girl".
It might not be rational but that is how I see her, she is more on the "pre-teen/teenager" side than Hudgens.
I don't take her real age into account, just how she looks.

I have no idea how the film will turn out but I can assure you that I will not be disturbed by it, that doesn't mean that I think it will be campy and light like Piranha.

How old are you?

Don't take offense. I'm just curious because when I look at high school and older middle school students they all seem to blend in together as just "younger." I can't distinguish between them, whereas I'm able to easily do so with people around my own age.

Then 'disturb' was the wrong word to start off with, should have just been 'dark,' but still - as a mid - early 20s guy, I find nothing peculiar about finding a 20 year old girl hot disturbing... and it isn't really technicalities - I still have friends a year older than me who always get carded because people think they're under 18.

I am 38.
It is not that I find 20 y/o hot girl to be disturbing, I find that this 20 y/o Gomez has a face of a 12/14 y/o that is what disturbed me when I saw the poster, she felt out of place next to Hudgens and "the other girl".

As somebody who is 'of age' - I know absolutely no younger teenagers who look anything like her. Rather she looks like just about every youthful college aged girl I know. As said, being in our 20s is a confusing time. Sometimes 25 year olds look younger than 20 year olds. We're still being carded because some of us look younger than 17 (hell I just recently stopped having to show my driver's license for rated R films and I'm the oldest-looking of my friends). It's realistic and it's not "disturbing," but then again - I'm 24 and she looks like other girls in their early twenties and 19 that I know. If you're 38, I'd say there's a reason why you'd feel awkward and it doesn't have anything to do with the casting. It has to do with being 18 years older. Because age wise, she does look like she's 20 and really 20 rather than film-wise 20. And as with the other girls, as said - it really seems like no one older can tell what age we are and if we're in high school or college in our early 20s still and some 25 year olds look younger than 20 year olds. Point is, to those 'of age' - it just comes off as real - rather than the Hollywood staple of casting. That probably comes from early 20s still regulated to playing 15 year olds on film and TV whereas actual 15 year olds look leagues different (just as awkward as 28+ playing college students and high school seniors).
