So Spock's father, because they need another Vulcan yet again?

And are the Vulcan's hairstyles ever going to look natural again? Leonard Nimoy's and the other Vulcans from the time of the original series are the only ones that look like real hair. In all other series or even in the new films, it just looks like an ill-fitting wig. The only exception to that is Tuvok, because his hairstyle is simply different, being more of an African-American hairstyle.

1. Ben Cross and Zachary Quinto's hair looked fine. What's her name in Enterprise did too.

2. We don't know the context for Sarek's appearance in this series. I highly doubt it's just a need for a token Vulcan kind of thing. Fuller may be gone now, but he did play a part in crafting the season, and I highly doubt he'd just trot out one of the classic characters for ****s and giggles, with no real purpose.

3. Great casting.

James Frain does have kind of a Sarek look about him. Interesting casting.

I am starting to wonder if this godforsaken mess will ever see the light of day.

That said, I'm all for anything with James Frain.

Zachary Quinto's hair did not look fine. It looked terrible in Star Trek Beyond.

I don't know if it's the cut, but it looks a little too bulky.

I don't remember what Ben Cross's looked like.

And I think the girl in Enterprise looked a bit wig like too, making the Vulcans look a bit more like the Romulans.

James Frain is awesome, good choice.

And yes, we need a Vulcan character in this series. First of all, along with the Klingons, Vulcans are one of the most iconic alien races ever created in popular fiction. It's odd but fitting that both come from the same franchise. Secondly, such a character fulfills an important role as being the objective observer of humanity, which is a key point of Star Trek itself. Thirdly, there's never been a series in Star Trek yet that has had principal characters of both iconic alien races in the same cast (B'elanna doesn't count as a Klingon IMO).

That may have been on purpose...if the show was continued we'd learn that she was half roman

Yeah, but even other Vulcans in other shows looked like they were more Romulan than Vulcan at times.

I think it's the fact that they used a wig whereas Leonard Nimoy probably had his real hair combed that way.

My biggest issue with star trek is that it treats it's aliens as the same. Spock has the bowl cut and every vulcan has to have it. It seems like humans are the only ones that are diverse.

I hoped that they'd not focus on vulcans and maybe focus on one of the other founding races...like andorians

They didn't all have such a perfect bowl cut in the original series. Sarek certainly didn't, and neither did the other Vulcans in Amok Time. And in the movies, Saavik kept her hair long and Valera had a bob but it was shaved on the sides. The promo images for Lt Xon, the Vulcan from the aborted Star Trek phase 2 series also didn't have a bowl. It seems it was only like that from TNG era where they standardised that haircut for everyone and made the actors wear wigs, which is why they've never looked very natural ever again.

I wish we could've gotten a series set after Voyager. Enough with the prequels.

or better yet set after domion war.

i have bad feeling on discovery.my feeling is it will make a mess out of trek history.fact it keeps getting deleyed is bad sign.

I am beginning to think their plan is to hold off actually filming the series until it really is the 22nd Century.

*obligatory chiming in as a long time Trekkie*

im not sure what to make of this series ever since Bryan Fuller was taken off as showrunner. i understand that he's still credited as exec producer, but yeah that like just getting status reports or something, he's not really running the show anymore, its someone else's vision that we see onscreen.

but in any case i will be watching this as far as my patience and time would allow. always loved all Trek movies and series minus DS9 and Enterprise (i liked them whenever i could watch though, but i could sense its not quite reaching the levels of TNG or Voyager), so here's hoping Discovery is a really good one.

I agree with you about Enterprise, but DS9 was just as good as TNG and Voyager, and is often even more critically acclaimed than those two. You'd have to watch it through though to appreciate all the complexities and characterisations, which are probably richer than the other two series.

i know that it got really interesting several seasons in (S5? or smth), but that was the time before streaming platforms and binge watching so it was hard to play catch up and then keep up with the plot.

I liked DS9 the most second only to TOS because it was truly something different than TOS

Umm...did you watch Hannibal? ;)

The first two seasons of Enterprise were awful. It was like watching paint dry, but they turned it around big time with the last two seasons.

DS9 is MUCH better than Voyager (which I found to really disappointing overall).

Im doing my first rewatch of the ST-verse and on S6 of DS9....love the series but not looking forward to them killing off Jadzia.

Oh, you're right. I completely forgot the part where the team was investigating a murder at a rave and interviewed a young girl calling herself "DJ Star" and she ends up so drawn into the investigations that she decides to leave the DJ'ing life behind her and become an FBI agent, revealing her name to be Clarice Starling.

Yeah, outside of the occasional gem, those first two seasons were bland as heck, though the season 2 episode First Flight is probably my favorite of the entire series. S3/S4 were overall a big improvement though.

DS9 is my favorate show after original series.yes it didn't really get going till late in season 2.

enterprise turned around greatly starting with finale of season 2 to end of show minus god awful series finale which tried to turn it into NG episode.i as longtime trekker actully quit watching enterprise in season 2.though i regret that with how much better it got in seasons 3 and 4 after catching them on DVD.

My least favorate trek is actully voyager

In previous series, they explored exotic planets. In Enterprise, they spent a whole episode exploring a piece of rock - some sort of asteroid.
