Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

If Jedi Knight Jedi Academy could do it without advanced physics. A game 5 years later could certainly with newer technology. The problem is lucasarts focuses on eyecandy instead of gameplay and this is what happens with alot of games sadly. This technology should push gameplay not crummy magnetic stormtrooper handshakes in the air with overdone force physics.

So a 1 hit + kill move with a lightsaber would make for interesting gameplay?! I don't think so.

It'd be a pretty short/easy game if that were the case.

Or it could be a challenging game with focus on AI reacting to the fact that they could be dispatched easily. Y'know actually evading, dodging, BLOCKING, fighting armies that SWARM and make it challenging using tactics and cover. Jediknight 2 did a decent hit detection system that the mod community expanded in good mods like OJP (i linked to a video of a 2 minute fight apparently you ignored it). There is no excuse for lucasarts not to be able to do a decent one as well with a nextgen game with apparent "new animation technology" they've been bragging about for the past year.

Well, I saw the video...Yeah...I prefer what we're getting with TFU. It might not be "real", but at least it looks like fun. The video wasnt that different than the original JK (without the mod). You just swing away while moving around, trying to hit the other guy. It's still very random.

I think it would be difficult to have, for example, the lightsaber combat from KotOR, in real time. I'm not saying it can't be done, because I don't really know, but I just think it would be difficult to come up with something good, a good system, that actually looks like lightsaber fighting....and no. That video was nowhere near the "real" thing. It sometimes looked like they were blocking some of the attacks, but no.

About LucasArts though, it's not that they couldn't, it's that they didn't want to. Sure, it may look silly when fighting a stormtrooper, but when fighting against a Jedi, it will look so much better than the video you posted. The characters will be doing actual moves and not swing around, randomly.

As for the ""new animation technology" they've been bragging about for the past year"...It's doing everything they said it would. They never said they could use it to create lightsaber combat as seen in the movies, or anything like that. The enemies are evading and are dodging and that's after they had to turn it down a little because the stormtroopers, at first, were really good and they could dodge pretty much everything.

I wasn't a fan of the combat in the Jedi Knight series either, especially the saber to saber combat, that was just horrible. However i did like the fact that once you hit a storm trooper, that was it, there was no combo'ing or juggling. If the saber to saber combat in TFU is like what it is in the Star Wars : Revenge of the Sith game, then ill be happy as i thought that was the best saber combat wev had in a Star Wars game.

That's how it looks. It seems like it's a similar combat system with that from RotS, but more deep....more stuff to do.

I guess they could have only the non Jedi characters die with one hit. I still think that while not true to what a ligthsaber can do, it'll still be fun amd that's what I want.

Yea, possibly. I havent really seen enough of the combat one way or the other, i mean iv seen some things i really liked(the force grab and impale move is GREAT) and then iv seen the Apprentice juggling a stormtrooper with the lightsaber, so i guess im kinda split.

The one-hit-kill kind of gameplay would be a pretty logical choice, but the only way I can see it being done right is as a bigger, faster-paced version of Assassin's Creed's combat system (but unlike AC, give me multiple tactics from the beggining; AC's combat only got great towards the end, IMO), with a bit of Fable 2's contextual system thrown in for good measure.

At least in my head, that'd be pretty damn kickass.

I'm anxious to see actual saber to saber combat from TFU now. We've seen it on duel mode but I think that's duel mode exclusive combat. I hope we get some sort of saber lock/clash against other Jedi in the next gen game though.

Agrees.:woot:
I liked how strong the lightsaber was, except for the fact that you can die from it just as easily. That made it challenging, though. Revenge of the Sith, is an underrated game, IMO. I loved the Jedi temple and Mustafar missions.

Thats an absolute MUST! I mean the saber to saber combat, if done poorly can ruin the game, for me anyway. I mean the whole point of your existence is to wipe out the remaining jedi so its only logical that youd come across some extremely powerful jedis as they survived the order.

Thats sooooooooo far away, my 360 wants it now :p
